African swine fever in Thrissur; About 450 pigs will be killed

Thrissur: African swine fever has been confirmed in pigs at Pananchery Talikode farms. About 18 pigs at the farm died en masse last day. Swine flu was confirmed in the subsequent examination. With this, about 450 pigs will be killed.

More samples were sent to the Bengaluru lab for detailed testing. 2 teams including 2 trained butchers are assigned to kill pigs.

Panachery Veterinary Asst. to lead the activities. 2 Rapid Response Teams comprising Project Officer, Live Stock Inspector and other staff have also been set up.
