Violation of FEMA Act;  ED raids Amazon, Flipkart offices nationwide

MUMBAI: ED probes e-commerce platforms across the country citing violation of Foreign Exchange Act.  The ED inspection was conducted at the offices associated with Amazon and Flipkart.  According to the report, 19 places like Delhi, Mumbai, Gurugram, Hyderabad and Bengaluru were inspected.

In 2019, the ED had started an investigation into the violation of the Foreign Exchange Act (FEMA) on e-commerce platforms.  It is reported that the nationwide inspection is related to this.  The Combination Commission had earlier found that Amazon and Flipkart engaged in anti-competitive practices by favoring selected sellers on their platforms.  Delhi Vyapar Mahasangh, a CAIT affiliate, had earlier filed a complaint against Amazon and Flipkart.
