New Delhi: President rejects mercy plea of Nirbhaya case accused Vinay Sharma. The President rejected the second mercy plea of the accused in the Nirbhaya case. Mukesh Kumar Singh, the accused, had earlier filed a petition.

All the four accused in the case were scheduled to be hanged on February 1. However, the Delhi Patiala Court stayed the death penalty on the plea of the accused demanding that the death warrant has stayed. The interim order is by Additional Sessions, Judge Dharmendra Rana.

Two other accused, Akshay Kumar and Pawan Gupta, are yet to be given mercy petition. But Mukesh Singh, who has already filed a correction petition and mercy petition, has no other option. The death penalty is likely to be extended, as the Supreme Court has ruled that the same offense committed at one time should be punished together.
