Imphal: In view of the tension in Manipur against the inclusion of the Metai community in the Scheduled Castes list, all trains to Manipur have been stopped. The North East Railway has suspended train services following a directive from the Manipur government. No trains will enter Manipur until the situation improves.
Many people were injured in the clashes that broke out in Manipur yesterday. Following the clashes, the army and Rapid Action Force have been deployed in the state.
Prohibitory orders have been announced in Imphal West, Kaking, Thoubal, Jiribam, Bishnupur districts, Churachandpur and Tengnaupal after the clashes. Apart from this, a shoot at sight order was issued to bring the situation under control. Governor Anusuya Ukeyi called on the people to exercise restraint and wait for peace.
Curfew was imposed in eight districts of Manipur following the outbreak of violence in Imphal, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi. Mobile internet has been temporarily suspended in the state.
The help of army and Assam Rifles has been sought to control the violence. Following the violence, around 4,000 people have sought shelter in army camps and government office premises in various parts of the state. Army is moving people to safe area.
Meanwhile, in the midst of the conflict, boxer Mary Kom posted a post on Twitter saying, “My state Manipur is burning, please help”. Mary Kom has sought immediate action from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on the issue.
