Patna: The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences has discovered a new variant of Omicron, BA12, in Bihar.
BA12 is estimated to be 10 times more dangerous than the BA2 found in the third wave.
The genome sequencing of omicron variants was initiated in view of the increasing number of covid cases Dr. Namrata Kumari clarified. She said one of the 13 samples tested was found to be BA12.
Authorities have been asked to take precautions as BA12 is a dangerous virus.
The omicron variant BA12 was first discovered in the United States. Three cases were later confirmed in Delhi.
