Kochi: Sarith’s interrogation in the gold smuggling case through the Thiruvananthapuram airport is progressing. The interrogation took place at the Customs Preventive Commissioner’s office in Kochi. Customs will record his arrest today. The gold was smuggled under the cover of the UAE consulate cargo. Sarith, a former PRO at the UAE Consulate, has also abused these relationships. Sarith was able to get up to 25 lakhs of gold at one time. He also gave information about the others involved in the gold loan to the customs.
Swapna Suresh, now a state IT department official and former consulate employee, is the mastermind. Their involvement was made clear when they questioned Sarith. Customs say that Swapna is absconded. The investigation is also in progress, focusing on Swapna Suresh. RAW and Intelligence Bureau officials will interrogate the accused.The largest-ever gold raid conducted at the airport in Kerala took place in Thiruvananthapuram. Customs officials seized 30 kg of gold. The gold smuggling was done by the diplomatic protection of luggage that a country sends to its embassy or consulate in another country. These cannot be seized or inspected by security personnel. If necessary, the inspection should be done with the special permission of the Ministry of External Affairs.
