Assam floods; 89 deaths, 2400 villages affected

New Delhi: The Center has provided Rs 346 crore as emergency assistance to flood-hit Assam. The amount has been sanctioned as a first step. The floods affected 26 districts in Assam. So far, 89 people have died, according to the Assam Disaster Management Authority. The floods affected 2,63,1,143 people across the state.

Golpora district was the worst hit by the floods. More than 4 lakh people are affected by the disaster here alone. The worst affected districts are Barpeta, Lakhimpur, Dubri, South Salamara, and Golaghat. So far, the state government has opened 391 relief camps. All 120 animals in Kaziranga National Park were killed in the floods. News agencies report that 147 animals have been rescued.
