Amazon India Export Digest 2020

Bangalore: Union Minister for Transport, National Highways, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Nitin Gadkari has launched Amazon India ‘Exports Digest 2020’. At the launch of the book, Amazon announced that exports through Indian sellers had surpassed $ 2 billion in the Amazon Global Selling Program. Amazon expects to increase exports as a key to the rapid growth of the MSME sector.

In January 2020, Amazon pledged to export $ 10 billion by 2025. The aim was to grow the Indian market through online sales around the world.

Amazon Global Selling enables more than 60,000 Indian exporters to export millions of ‘Made in India’ products to customers worldwide. It is made possible by 15 international websites in the USA, UK, UAE, Canada, Mexico, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Turkey, Brazil, Japan, Australia, and Singapore. Through this program, more than 800 MSMEs in the country crossed the $ 131,375 (Rs. 1 crore) milestone in 2019 through e-commerce export sales.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said, “We appreciate all the micro, small and medium retailers working with Amazon to bring local products to the global market.” This is a testament to the ability of MSMEs in the country and their attitude towards entrepreneurship. The MSME sector is the backbone of the Indian economy and a major employer. MSMEs account for 28 percent of the country’s GDP and 48 percent of exports. They will continue to play a crucial role in the country’s economic recovery and help overcome the current epidemic. Exports are a top priority for the government. Government support for MSME’s in the country to achieve greater success in international markets. He also said that the export share of MSMEs would be increased to 60 percent.“We are pleased that Indian MSMEs and brands have achieved rapid growth in Amazon global selling. The program took three years to reach a total of one billion dollars in exports. While achieving 100 percent growth in the last 18 months and achieving the next $ 1 billion, it surpassed the $ 2 billion milestones of total exports from India. Through this program, exports from India are rapidly increasing and helping to create global Indian brands. We are excited for MSMEs to realize their export potential, contribute to self-reliance, and build a strong base. We will continue to work to make exports easier for entrepreneurs and businesses across the country and to fulfill our pledge of enabling $ 10 billion in e-commerce exports by 2025, ”said Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President, and Amazon India Country Head.
