‘It is a crime to use military uniforms’; Court notice to the Prime Minister

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been issued a court notice for wearing a military uniform. The Prayagraj District Court in Uttar Pradesh has issued a notice to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The action was taken on a petition filed against Modi for wearing a military uniform during his visit to Kashmir last year. The petition states that the use of military uniforms other than soldiers is punishable under Indian Penal Code 140.

District Judge Nalin Kumar Srivastava sent the notice to the Prime Minister’s Office on a petition filed by advocate Rakesh Nath Pandey.

Pandey had filed a petition in the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court last December against Modi’s military appearance. However, the court refused to consider the petition, saying it did not fall within their jurisdiction. Following this, Pandey approached the district court.
