In Nagaland, the controversial law ‘AFSPA’ has been extended for another six months

New Delhi: Nagaland’s controversial law ‘AFSPA’ has been extended for another six months. Earlier this month, 14 civilians were killed in a series of military shootings and subsequent protests. Following this, there was a widespread demand for the repeal of this law which gives special rights to the military.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neifu Rio had earlier said that a committee would be set up to look into issues related to the withdrawal of AFSA. Neifu Rio made the remarks after a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

This was followed by the decision to extend the AFSPA Act for another six months. For the past few years, the AFSPA has been extending the law every six months in areas considered to be problem areas in Nagaland.
