Ottava: The death toll in western Canada is rising sharply as the heatwave intensifies. In the province of British Colombia alone, 719 people were reported dead in a week. Large-scale fires have been reported in many places due to the heat. There have been 130 fire incidents in the last few days. The city of Lytton in the province recorded the worst heatwave in a thousand years. The previous day’s temperature in Lytton was 49.6 degrees. Two deaths have been confirmed here.
However, officials said that the fire was exacerbated by frequent thunderstorms. 12,000 thunderstorms were recorded in British Columbia. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has called an emergency meeting to discuss the issue as the country fears.
The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued. In addition to Canada, the heatwave is strong in the United States as well. Health officials said several people had died in Oregon and Washington.
