New Delhi: Gujarat Police has acquitted three more accused in the Ishrat Jahan murder case. Ahmedabad CBI special court has acquitted GS Singhal an IPS Officer, Rt. police officer Tarun Barot, Commando officer Anaju Chaudhari. Earlier, the court had acquitted four accused. The CBI had not filed an appeal in the case. With the new action of the CBI court, all the accused escaped from the case.
The court acquitted the accused and said they could not prove that Ishrat Jahan and others were not terrorists. The court also ruled that the CBI had not appealed against the earlier acquittal.
In June 2004, Ishrat Jahan, Pranesh Pillai (Javed Sheikh), Amjad Ali Rana, and Zeeshan Johar were shot dead by police in Ahmedabad. Police said the four were Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists who had come to assassinate Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Police said they were killed in the clash. However, the investigation revealed that they were shot dead after their arrest.
