Mob lynching; Supreme Court notice to the central government

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the central government, various states, and the National Human Rights Commission on the mob lynching to murder. The notice is in the public interest litigation pointing out that the 2018 Supreme Court ruling is not being implemented effectively.

Apart from the central government, the notice has been issued to states including Uttar Pradesh, Jammu, and Kashmir, Bihar, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Gujarat, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan. The two-membered bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Deepak Gupta considered the case.

Bus topples in Kozhikode; many injured

Kozhikode: A private bus has toppled at Kozhikode’s Thondayad junction. According to preliminary reports, 18 people were injured. The crash happened around 10 am. The bus was heading to the town from the Medical College area. The injured were rushed to the Medical College Hospital. One of the injured is in critical condition.

BS Yeddyurappa will take oath in Karnataka today

Bengaluru: BS Yeddyurappa to be sworn in Karnataka today. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at 6 pm. He reached the Raj Bhavan and visited the governor to make a claim for the government. BJP and Yeddyurappa are trying to form a government in Karnataka.

Yeddyurappa takes oath as CM for the fourth term. The BJP has the backing of 107 people, including two independents. Meanwhile, there are reports that rebel Congress and JDS legislators based in Mumbai will return to Bengaluru today.

Nine of the 12 Indians were aboard the ship that was captured by Iran released

Tehran: Nine of the 12 Indians aboard the ship that was seized by Iran off the Hormuz Strait have been released. The crew of the MT Riya ship that was captured in early July was released.

Another 21 Indians, including a British oil tanker, the Steno Emperor, another vessel blocked by Iran, are still waiting for release. Among them are Malayalees. Three are in MT Riya. Indian authorities have contacted 18 Indians in custody at Steno Emperor.

Twenty-four Indians aboard the British-held Iranian oil ship Grace One have been are also still waiting for the release. The Indian High Commission in London has contacted them and informed them that action will be taken to release them.

Nedunkandam Custody Murder; Three on remanded

Idukki: The three accused in Rajkumar custody death has been sent on remand. Including ASI three were arrested Roy P Varghese, CP Jithin K George, Home guard KM James was remanded for 14 days.

The bail application by SI K A Sabu, CP Sajeev Antony has been denied by Thdupuzha district sessions court. With this, the total number of arrests in the case has been raised to seven.

Triple Talaq Prohibition Bill introduced in Lok Sabha

New Delhi: The triple talaq prohibition bill introduced in Lok Sabha. Presenting the Bill, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the Muttalaq Bill is in line with the Supreme Court’s ruling. After the court verdict, 345 Mutalaq cases have been reported. The minister said the bill was meant to ensure gender justice.

Opposition MPs protested against the introduction of the bill. Members of the Congress, the Trinamool Congress, the DMK and the Muslim League has protested. The Congress, the Trinamool Congress, and the DMK have demanded that the bill be left to a parliamentary committee.

RSP MP NK Premachandran asked why the jail does not apply to Hindu and Christian people who are divorced.

The ordinance makes it a criminal offense to divorce a marriage. Earlier, the Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha but was not ratified by the Rajya Sabha.

Muthalaq was banned in the country in 2017.

Indian sailors in Iran oil tanker, caught by Britain arrested, released on bail

New Delhi: Four Indian sailors have been arrested in Iran’s oil tanker Grace-1, which was seized by Britain’s Gibraltar. They were later released on bail, Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muralidharan said. He said he hoped Indian High Commission officials in London would talk to Indian sailors in the evening.

There are 24 Indian sailors on board. However, it is unclear which of them were arrested. It was also reported that there are three Malayalees on board the ship.

Meanwhile, Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale held discussions with the Iranian ambassador to India regarding the release of sailors from Iran’s seized oil tanker Stena Impero. Minister Muralidharan has said that the Indian Ambassador to Iran is in talks with Iranian Foreign Ministry officials.

Owners of Stena Bulk have denied Iran’s allegation that Stena Impero hit an Iranian fishing boat. Bandar Abbas has requested the port authorities to visit the sailors, but there has been no response.

Imran Khan says more than 40 terrorist groups are working in Pakistan

Washington: Prime Minister Imran Khan says more than 40 terrorist groups are operating on Pakistan soil. Imran Khan announced at a reception held on Capitol Hill. Imran Khan said Pakistan was not involved in the 9/11 attacks and that al Qaeda was operating in Afghanistan.

Imran Khan, meanwhile, said Pakistan was ready to give up nuclear weapons if India was willing. Imran Khan said this in an interview to Fox News. Nuclear war is not good for both countries. Imran Khan said the nuclear war would destroy itself. Imran Khan has repeatedly called for US President Trump to intervene in the Kashmir issue.

The US is the most powerful country in the world. Only the US can resolve the Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan. For the past 70 years, it has been impossible to remain a regular neighbor in Kashmir. “I want India to be ready for mediation,” Khan said.

Imran Khan added that Pakistan will also involve in the US counterterrorism fight and the Pakistani government regretted hiding the truth from the US.

BS Yeddyurappa to be sworn as CM of Karnataka tomorrow

Bengaluru: BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa will be sworn in as chief minister tomorrow after the defeat of the Congress-JDS alliance in the trust vote in Karnataka. Yeddyurappa will meet the Governor today to form the government.

BS Yeddyurappa is back as Chief Minister after a gap of 14 months with Kumaraswamy’s resignation following to the failure of the confidence vote. The BJP is the single largest party with 105 MLAs in the Karnataka Assembly. If the dissidents resign or disqualify them, the BJP will be overwhelmingly supported by the two independents. That is why the BJP decided to claim to form the government.

The motion passed by Chief Minister Kumaraswamy was supported by 99 members. 105 were opposed. Kumaraswamy’s reply speech lasted for about an hour and started the trust vote in the assembly.

Attack; Three people, including the former mayor killed in TN

Chennai: Former DMK mayor and her husband were killed in an attack by unknown persons in Tamil Nadu.

An unidentified gang attacked the three in Tirunelveli on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Uma Maheswari (61), the mayor of Tirunelveli and her husband Muruka Sankaran (65) and servent.

Uma Maheswari was the Mayor of Tirunelveli from 1996 to 2001. The unidentified men attacked Uma Maheshwari’s residence at around 3 in the afternoon.

Police said the land dispute is suspected to have been the cause of the house attack and the subsequent murder. The police said that the investigation has been extended to all levels and all possibilities will be looked into.
