Thiruvananthapuram: CPM state secretary M.V. Govindan has issued a legal notice to businessman B. Shajirshad over the controversial letter leak case. Senior advocate Rajagopalan Nair sent the notice on Govindan’s behalf, accusing Shajirshad of making defamatory remarks. The notice demands that Shajirshad withdraw his allegations within three days and issue a correction through the media. The controversy erupted after a letter Shajirshad had submitted to the CPI(M) Politburo in 2022 resurfaced, triggering a major political storm.
Rape Case: HC Stays Rapper Vedan’s Arrest
Kochi: The Kerala High Court has stayed the arrest of rapper Vedan in a rape case until his anticipatory bail plea is considered. During the hearing, the court asked how a consensual sexual relationship, as admitted by the complainant, could later be treated as rape. The court observed that every relationship breakdown cannot be classified as rape and that decisions must be based on evidence, not the person’s social status or influence. The court also directed the government to inform if Vedan faced any other cases.
Sreenivasan Murder Case: Four More Accused Granted Bail
Kochi: The Kerala High Court has granted bail to four more accused in the Palakkad Sreenivasan murder case. Ansar, Bilal, Riyas, and Sahir were granted bail by a division bench led by Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan. The NIA had argued that the accused were members of the Popular Front of India (PFI). Investigations revealed that the murder was a retaliatory act for the killing of PFI leader Subair. Earlier, several accused in the case had already been granted bail by both the High Court and the Supreme Court.

Bloodstains Found in Sebastian’s House Belong to Missing Woman Jainamma
Investigators have confirmed that bloodstains found in the house of Sebastian, a resident of Pallippuram, belong to Jainamma, a woman from Ettumanoor who went missing in 2024. The stains were discovered during a search at his house by the Kottayam Crime Branch. Sebastian reportedly met Jainamma at a spiritual centre in Kottayam before her disappearance. He was arrested following mobile phone tracking, which led police to his home. DNA test results on other suspected human remains found at the house are awaited but are believed to be hers. Authorities are also investigating his possible links to the disappearances of Bindu Padmanabhan and Ayesha. After court proceedings, Sebastian is expected to be taken back into custody for further interrogation.

Anwar is the fourth accused in the case, which alleges that the fraud caused heavy losses to KFC.
Supreme Court to Hear Plea for Nimisha Priya’s Release on Thursday
New Delhi: The Supreme Court will on Thursday hear a petition seeking intervention for the release of Malayali nurse Nimisha Priya, who is serving a death sentence in Yemen for the murder of a Yemeni national. The Save Nimisha Priya Action Council had sought permission to travel to Yemen to negotiate her release, but the central government rejected the request citing security concerns. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta will hear the plea.
₹60 Crore Fraud Case Filed Against Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra
New Delhi: Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra have been booked for allegedly cheating a Mumbai businessman of ₹60.48 crore. The case, filed by businessman Deepak Kothari, alleges that between 2015 and 2023, the couple diverted the funds—originally meant for business expansion—for personal use. Kothari claims he met the couple through an intermediary when they were directors of the online shopping platform Best Deal TV, 87% of which was in Shilpa’s name. Initially, he invested ₹31.95 crore in April 2015, followed by another ₹28.54 crore, after being told of ongoing tax issues. However, in April 2016, Shilpa resigned as a director, and the company faced legal trouble. Despite repeated requests, the money was not returned. The Juhu police have registered the case under charges of cheating and fraud.
Setback for ADGP Ajith Kumar; Vigilance Court Rejects Clean Chit
Thiruvananthapuram: The Vigilance Court in Thiruvananthapuram has rejected a clean chit report given to ADGP M.R. Ajith Kumar in a disproportionate assets case. The report had earlier found no corruption in his flat purchase or alleged gold smuggling links. The court has directed the statement of complainant Adv. Nagarajan to be recorded. The case involves allegations related to the construction of a luxury house, smuggling of gold, and illegal felling of trees at the Malappuram SP’s residence. The petitioner alleged that the investigation, conducted by officers under the ADGP, failed to properly verify property records.
