Sabarimala trail to open tomorrow: 250 people will enter Sannidhanam tomorrow

Pathanamthitta: Sabarimala will open tomorrow for Tulamasa pujas. Sabarimala will open tomorrow at 5 pm. The Chief Minister informed that all the arrangements for this have been completed. He said Covid negative and fitness certificates are mandatory for those who visit. Devotesss must arrive with the certificate received within 48 hours.

About 250 people are allowed to visit tomorrow. Get Amla access for those who book through Virtual Queue. The CM said that an SP-led team has been deployed at Sabarimala.

There will be no other special poojas tomorrow. AK Sudheer Namboothiri, the Melsanthi of the temple, will light the lamps at the temple shrine.  Then Tantri Kantharar Rajeevarar will distribute Vibhuti Prasadam. In addition to the regular poojas, there will be Udayasthamana Pooja and Padipooja. The walk will open on Saturday morning.

The procession will end on the night of the 21st with the singing of Harivarasana after completing the Tulamas pujas. Thirunada will reopen on November 15 at 5 pm for this year’s Mandala-Makaravilakku festival. Mandala Puja is on December 26. Makaravilakku is on January 14, 2021. This time the devotees are admitted following the Covid protocol.

Jan Shatabdi trains will run from Friday

Thiruvananthapuram: The Railways has decided to restore all the stops of the Janshatabdi special trains which were in service in the wake of the Covid reduction in the number of stops. The action was taken citing the reduction in revenue of trains due to the reduction in stops.

Thiruvananthapuram-Kozhikode Janashatabdi will have stops at Varkala, Kollam, Kayamkulam, Alappuzha, Cherthala, Ernakulam, Aluva, Thrissur, Shornur and Tirur as usual. The Thiruvananthapuram-Kannur Janashatabdi will have stops at Kollam, Kayamkulam, Mavelikkara, Chengannur, Thiruvalla, Kottayam, Ernakulam Town, Thrissur, Shornur, Tirur, Kozhikode, Vadakara and Thalassery.

The Railways has decided to start more train services with the concessions in Covid regulations. Pooja special trains are scheduled to run from November 20 to November 30.

Ten accused in gold smuggling case granted bail

Thiruvananthapuram: Ten accused in gold smuggling case have been granted bail. The Kochi NIA special court granted bail to the accused in the case filed by UAPA. The bail pleas of the three accused were rejected.

The main accused Swapna and Sarith had withdrawn their bail application filed in the Kochi NIA Special Court. There are a total of thirty accused in the case. The NIA claimed that the accused had terrorist links. Swapna and Sarith withdrew their bail pleas on the ground that the main accused would not be granted bail.

The renowned poet Akkitham Achuthan Namboothiri has passed away

Thrissur: Jnanpith winner and renowned Malayalam poet Akkitham Achuthan Namboothiri (94) passed away. He died at a private hospital in Thrissur. He was admitted to the hospital yesterday due to age-related illnesses and died at 8.10 am today.

Akkitham was born on 18 March 1926 in Amettoor Akkithath Mana, Kumaranalloor, Palakkad district to Akkithath Vasudevan Namboothiri and Chekoor Manakkal Parvathy Antharjanam. He was the co-editor of Mangalodayam and Yogakshemam and worked as a scriptwriter for All India Radio, Kozhikode from 1956. He also worked as an editor at All India Radio Thrissur in 1975. He retired from All India Radio in 1985.

Malayalam has received over 46 works of poetry, drama, short stories, and essays as contributions of the great poet Akkitham. Irupatham Noottandinte Ithihasam, Bhagavatam, Nimisha Kshethram, Vennakkallinte Kadha, Balidarshanam, Manasakshiyude Pookkal, Akkithathinte Therajendutha Kavithakal, Panchavarnakkili, Arangettam, Madhuvidhu, Oru Kula Munthiringa, Idinjupolinja Lokam, Amritagathika, Kalikottilil are the mains works. He has also published essays on Upanayanam and Samavarthanam.

In 1972, he received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for his work Balidarshanam. Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award in 1973, Odakkuzhal Award in 1974, Sanjayan Award, Padmaprabha Award, Amrita Keerthi Award, Ezhuthachan Award for Outstanding Contribution in 2008, Mathrubhumi Sahitya Award in 2008, Vayalar Award in 2012, Ezhuthachan Award in 2017, Samithi Award Has been received.

In 2019, the Jnanpith award was sought for the great poet of Malayalam. With that, Akkitham became the sixth Malayalee writer to win the Jnanpith.

Heavy rains in the state; Yellow alert declared in 11 districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The meteorological department has warned of heavy rains in the state today. A yellow alert has been declared in 11 districts. Yellow alert in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts.

The Disaster Management Authority warned of strong thunderstorms from 2 pm to 10 pm. The epicenter was reported below the Pacific Ocean floor, however; no tsunami alert was issued. Kerala also received heavy rainfall over the Bay of Bengal which reached the coast via Andhra Pradesh. Fishermen have been warned not to go to sea. Yellow alert in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts tomorrow.

New bridges of India may worsen standoff along tense border with China

New Delhi: China will not accept Ladakh as part of India. China has blamed construction in Ladakh on border disputes between the two countries. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated 44 bridges in Ladakh yesterday.

China’s response is in the context of this. China’s position is that Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh are not recognized as Indian territories and both are illegally held by India. But India’s position is that these are completely within India’s borders.

The bridges are located in the border areas of Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Punjab. Eight bridges were inaugurated in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh alone.

China has demanded that such bridges in strategic areas be halted for military purposes. But India does not accept this. Senior military officials from India and China met for the seventh time yesterday to discuss the border conflict. The military has not released details of the 11-hour-long discussion.

Heavy rains and floods in Telangana; 11 Deaths, people’s lives stagnated

Hyderabad: Heavy rains and floods have brought life to a standstill in Telangana. Various parts of the state are underwater. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in Vanasthalipuram, Dammaiguda, Attapur Main Road, and Musheerabad area of Hyderabad.

The death toll from the monsoon has risen to 11 in the state. Three people were killed when a house collapsed at Gaganpahad in Shamshabad on Tuesday.

The rains lashed Agamaya Nagar, Bank Colony, Hakimbad, Sainath Colony, and Ganesh Nagar in Rangareddy district. Eight people, including a child was injured when a building collapsed in Bandlaguda.

State Disaster Response Force and Fire Brigade intensified rescue operations in the flood-ravaged Toli Chowki area. Traffic has been halted in various parts of the city. Traffic in slow-moving areas is slow.

Aadhaar is no longer mandatory for birth and death registration

Thiruvananthapuram: The Aadhaar number is no longer mandatory for birth and death registrations, the Registrar General’s Office said. The Registrar General’s Office said in a circular issued in April last year that birth and death registration would be accepted as an Aadhaar identification document. Applicants can decide whether to produce Aadhaar or not. Avoid recording Aadhaar number in official documents. It was also stated that the first 8 digits should be covered with black ink as soon as they are recorded.

Kerala State film awards announced; Best actor Suraj Venjaramoodu, Actress Kani Kusruthi, Director Lijo Jose Pellissery

Thiruvananthpuram: Culture Minister AK Balan has announced the 50th Kerala State Film Awards.

Suraj Venjaramoodu won the Best Actor award for his performance in Android Kunjappan and Vikruthi. Kani Kusruthi won the Best Actress award for her performance in Biryani. Vasanthi is directed by Shinos Rahman and Shajaz Rahman.

Lijo Jose Pellissery, the director of Jellybean, is the best director. Fahad Fazil and Swasika were nominated for Best Actor and Best Actress.

The awards were decided by a jury chaired by renowned cinematographer and director Madhu Ambat.
