WhatsApp Payments goes live; Four banks, including SBI, will co-operate

New Delhi: WhatsApp payment system can now be used by 120 million people in the country. The new system is a collaboration between SBI, HDFC, ICICI Bank, and Axis Bank.

Money transfer is as easy as texting. Last November, the National Payments Corporation and the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) gave WhatsApp permission to set up a payment system.

It is hoped that the digital payment system will reach more people in the country with the introduction of the WhatsApp payment facility. Digital payment systems will be more popular in rural areas.

Heavy Rains Likely in Kerala: Yellow alerts issued

Thiruvananthapuram: The Met Office has warned of heavy rains in the state today. A yellow alert has been declared in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts. The public should be cautious as there is a possibility of thundershowers. Fishing is not restricted along the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep.

KSRTC Services restarted in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: KSRTC CMD Biju Prabhakar said that all KSRTC services, which were suspended in the state due to the lockdown, will be resumed from today. All unit officers have been instructed on this. However, the CMD said it would maintain the system of operating fast passengers in two districts and super fasts in up to four districts. KSRTC expects to be fully operational by next week.

KSRTC will also run a special inter-state service in connection with the Christmas and New Year. The service will run from December 21 to January 4 from various centers in Kerala to Bangalore and back.

Local elections; Left wave in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Left movement in the state in the local body elections. The LDF is leading in 514 panchayats. The UDF is leading in 377 panchayats. The BJP is leading in all the 22 panchayats. The LDF is also advancing in district and block panchayats. In 14 district panchayats, the LDF is leading in 11 seats and the UDF in three. The LDF won in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Kozhikode corporations. While the LDF is leading in five out of six corporations, the UDF is in the lead in one place.

The UDF retained control of the Kannur Corporation. The UDF was able to gain only in the municipalities. The UDF is leading in 45 municipalities, the LDF in 35, and the BJP in two. With the entry of Jose K. Mani in the front, the LDF made gains in Kottayam and Idukki districts. CPM state secretary A Vijayaraghavan said the victory of the Left Front was in support of the government’s actions.

KPCC president Mullappally Ramachandran said that the UDF was not harmed in the local body elections. Mullappally Ramachandran thanked all the voters who supported the United Democratic Front. The propaganda that the election verdict is against Congress and the UDF is not correct. No damage has been done to the base of the UDF. Compared to the results of 2015, it has been able to show better performance in all sectors. The UDF also said that the meeting of the political affairs tomorrow will also look into the allegations.

There will be no winter session of Parliament

New Delhi: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Singh Joshi has said that there will be no winter session of Parliament. The government has made its position clear in a reply to a letter from Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Rajan Chaudhary.

The government had earlier hinted that there would be no assembly session in the Covid context. However, the government rejected Chaudhary’s demand that the assembly convenes in the wake of the farmers’ agitation. The letter said the decision was taken after consultations with all political parties.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rains in Kerala. A yellow alert has been declared in Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. Heavy rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is forecast in isolated places in 24 hours.

The Central Meteorological Department has warned of isolated thundershowers in Kerala from today till the 19th. The risk of thunderstorms is high between 2 pm and 10 pm. (Sometimes it may be late at night). The warning said thunderstorms are likely to be active in the hilly region and the public should take precautions.

Chennai: Style Mannan Superstar Rajinikanth’s Political Party realizing in. Autorickshaw logo for a party called “Makkal Sevai Katchi'(People Service Party). The Legislative Assembly for 2021 will also be declared the political party on the 31st of this month. Fans group of Rajanikant- Rajani Makkal Mantram registered the party.

The party’s first preference was the two-finger symbol (the “rock-on” gesture used by Rajinikanth in the film “Baba”) and the second choice was the autorickshaw. The election body assigned the second – a reminder of another popular Rajini starrer, “Basha”, in which he played an autorickshaw driver.

According to the list of the Election Commission, September 2019, the party has changed its name to Sevai Katchi.
