Fireworks blast again in Sivakasi; Nine people were injured

Sivakasi: Another blast at a fireworks factory in Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu. The blast took place at the KR fireworks Factory in Sivakasi. Nine people were injured in the accident and the building collapsed.

 The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital. Firefighters and police on the scene. About 70 people were reported to be working here.

 At least 19 people have been killed in the blast hospital yesterday. They were admitted to hospitals in Sattur and Sivakasi. 

Money laundering case; ED filed the charge sheet against Siddique Kappan

Lucknow: Enforcement Directorate has filed the charge sheet against five including Malayalee Journalist Siddique Kappan in a money laundering case. In addition to Siddique, the Popular Front, and the student body, the Campus Front workers were are the other accused in the case.  

The charge sheet alleged that the accused made an illegal money deal for anti-national works. The charge sheet was submitted before the court considering financial frauds in Lucknow.

Siddiq Kappan was arrested by the UP police while traveling to report the rape and murder case in Hathras. 

11 Malayalee students arrested for ragging at Mangalore College

Mangalore: Eleven Malayalee students have been arrested for ragging in Mangalore. The students were from the Kanichur Institute of Medical Sciences. They have ragged five first-year Malayalee students.

College officials have complained to the police alleging that 18 students were ragged. The arrested are from Kozhikode, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Malappuram, and Kasaragod.

They asked first-year students to cut their hair and shave. They were also asked to count the matches and use them to measure the room. Those who disobeyed were locked in a room and attacked. Additional provisions of the Karnataka Education Act will be imposed on students.

Fuel price hike: Airfares hiked by 30 percent

New Delhi: The Center has hiked airfares amid rising fuel prices. An average increase of thirty percent has been announced. According to media reports, there will be an increase of around Rs 5,600 in ticket prices.Government sources explain that this is just a normal procedure.

During the 180-210 minute flight, the price increased by 30% from Rs 18,600 to Rs 24,200. The minimum fare increase for short journeys is 10 percent. It will cost around Rs 200, ”the Ministry of Civil Aviation said.It is common practice to increase rates at regular intervals depending on fuel prices. The increase to March 31 has now been announced.

The maximum increase for domestic travel is Rs 2,200 and the maximum is Rs 7,800. Earlier it was Rs 2,000 and Rs 6,000.
In the upper class, the minimum is Rs 7,200 and the maximum is Rs 24,200. Earlier, it was Rs 6,500 and Rs 18,600.
Earlier, the central government had introduced some restrictions on airfares because of the Covid situation. However, ticket restrictions were lifted in the wake of the Covid expansion.

IPL; Sreesanth out of the auction, 298 finalists

A total of 298 players are on the list for the auction, which is set to take place on the 18th of this month. It is noteworthy that Sreesanth did not get a place in the list and Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun got a place in the list.

CBSE schools will reopen on April 1

New Delhi: CBSE has announced that the new academic year will begin on April 1, 2021. Classes in CBSE schools in Kerala usually start in June.

However, CBSE’s explanation came amid doubts over the reopening of the school after it was decided to conduct Class 10 and 12 examinations in May and June. CBSE Exam Controller Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj said schools should be opened following the guidelines of the respective states.

The CBSE order is based on proposals submitted by Indira Rajan, general secretary of the Council of CBSE Schools. Schools should take the necessary precautions to receive students and to conduct face-to-face study.
Teachers should pay personal attention to each student before filling in the gaps in learning. Particular attention should be paid to students in grades nine and 11. The circular also says that students should be prepared to make the necessary preparations for the final examination.

The Sabarimala will be opened today for Kumbhamasa pujas

Sannidhanam: The Sabarimala temple will open at 5 pm today for Kumbhamasa pujas. The temple main priest VK Jayaraj Potti will light the lamps at the temple shrine.

There will be no poojas today. The temple will open at 5 am tomorrow, the first day of the month of Kumbha. Only Ayyappa devotees who have booked a ticket through the virtual queue will be allowed to enter Sabarimala during the Kumbh month puja. Admission is limited to 5,000 devotees daily.

Ayyappa devotees must keep in hand the negative certificate of Corona RTPCR / RT Lamb / Experts NAT test conducted within 48 hours. Anyone who does not get a pass through the virtual queue will not be allowed to visit. Devotees will not have accommodation at Pamba, Nilakkal, and Sannidhanam. After completing the Kumbhamasa poojas, the temple will close on the night of February 17 singing Harivarasana.

Kerala started giving covaxin, covishield only for health workers

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala started giving the Covaxin. Covaxin, an Indian-made Covid vaccine is being given by the Covid Front fighters to the Kerala Police in the second phase of vaccination.

Covaxin is given to Covid Front fighters by obtaining consent. But health workers should also be given the Covishield vaccine.
Earlier, it was decided not to give covaxin as the third phase of the trial was not possible. However, the health department had suggested that more doses of the covaxin vaccine should be given in case it reaches Kerala in the coming days.

The Central Election Commission is in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Election Commission will arrive in Kerala on the night of February 12 to assess the preparations for the Assembly elections in Kerala. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, Election Commissioners Sushil Chandra and Rajeev Kumar, and senior officials will arrive in Kerala. Chief Electoral Officer Tikaram Meena said that the team will be in Kerala till 15.
The team will meet the Chief Electoral Officer and the Police Nodal Officer tomorrow at 10 am. They will hold discussions with the representatives of the political parties at 11 am. Discussions will be held with the district election officers and SPs at 3.30 pm. At 6.30 pm there will be a liaison with other administrative agencies related to the election.

Another meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer will be held on the 14th at 10 am. At 3.30 pm, he will interact with senior officials including the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, and the Chief of State Police. A press conference has also been organized at 5 pm. The team will return to Delhi on the morning of the 15th.

The team will also include senior Election Commission officials Deputy Election Commissioners Sudeep Jain and Chandrabhushan Kumar, ADG Sheibhali B Sharan, Director Pankaj Srivastava, and Secretary AK Pathak.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) is arriving in Kerala today from Chennai after completing inspections on election preparations in Tamil Nadu.

Arrest warrant issued for accused in Kozhikode solar scam case

Kozhikode: Arrest warrant issued for accused in Kozhikode solar scam case. The first accused Biju Radhakrishnan and the second accused Saritha S Nair have been issued arrest warrants. The court denied bail to both. They are due to appear in court on 25.
The verdict in the case of Saritha and Biju Radhakrishnan who bought and cheated Abdul Majeed from Kozhikode to install a solar panel for Rs 42,70,000 was announced today.
Kozhikode Judicial First Class Magistrate adjourned till last week. This is one of the first registered cases of solar scam in the state. The case was registered by Kozhikode Kasaba police in 2012.
