Minority Scholarship: High Court verdict stays
New Delhi: The High Court verdict in the case related to minority scholarships will not stay. The state government has approached the Supreme Court against the Kerala High Court’s decision to quash the 80:20 ratio in minority scholarships. The state government had sought a stay of the High Court judgment on the petition. But the court rejected the request to stay and sent a notice to the parties to the case.
A bench headed by Justice L Nageshwar Rao heard the state government’s plea. The Kerala High Court ruled that the 80:20 ratio should be abolished and the scholarship should be given based on population. The state has no authority to determine minority scholarships. The High Court had pointed out that giving benefits to only one section was discriminatory. However, the state government argued that the scholarship would be disqualified if it was awarded without regard to educational backwardness.
Bombay High Court grants bail to Aryan Khan
Mumbai: Mumbai High Court has granted bail to Aryan Khan, who was arrested by the NCB during a drunken party on a luxury ship. Arbas Merchant and former Dhameche, who were arrested along with Aryan Khan, have been granted bail by a court. Aryan Khan will be released from jail after 21 days in jail.
Mukul Rohtagi, a senior advocate for Aryan Khan, appeared in the Mumbai High Court. Rohtagi had pointed out during the argument that he had not taken drugs from Aryan and that there was not even a medical test result for drug use. Rohtagi had pointed out in court that even the amount of charas seized from Aryan’s friend Arbas was not enough for imprisonment and that the main evidence in the case was WhatsApp Chat 2018. It was also raised in the High Court that Aryankhan had no history of past crimes.
However, the NCB alleged that Shah Rukh Khan was trying to sabotage the case, citing the controversial revelations of a witness in the case. The NCB argued against the bail plea that such evidence would be destroyed if Aryan Khan was released. But the court rejected this argument and granted bail to Aryan and his friends.
Aryan Khan, 23, was taken into custody on October 3 during a NCB raid on a luxury ship. Aryan, who was remanded in custody at the Arthur Road jail in Mumbai, was twice denied bail by a court.
