Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister V Sivankutty has announced the date of Onam exam, which was absent in the state for the last two years due to Corona.

The date of the first term examination in schools has been announced. The exam will be held from August 24 to September 2. After that, the school will close on September 3 and reopen on September 12, the minister said.

The government yesterday issued an order specifying the time schedule for higher secondary admissions in the state. As part of this, plus one trial allotment will be held on July 28. The first allotment list will be published on August 3.

Classes will start on August 22. On the other hand, the reason for the delay in higher secondary admissions is the late arrival of CBSE and ICSE students’ 10th class examination results.

Idukki: Accused in several cases arrested with 35 kg ganja in Thodupuzha, Idukki. Police arrested Vishnu alias Vadiwal Kannan. The police said that they will intensify the investigation into the smuggling of ganja through Idukki.

The accused was caught with 35 kg of dried ganja during a special investigation conducted on the instructions of the district police chief. The inspection followed the discovery that places like Thodupuzha are being used as hubs to bring ganja from other states to other districts of Kerala. Vishnu popularly known as Vadiwal Kannan, accused in several cases, was arrested.

The police have decided to conduct a detailed investigation into the smuggling of cannabis through Idukki. It is found that a big lobby including Malayalis is working in the incident. The investigation will also include the means used to bring such a large collection to the city. The police said that the inspection will be stricter in the coming days.

Kozhikode: A massive transfer in the case of Sajjevan, a native of Kalleri, who was taken into custody by the Vadakara police, collapsed and died in the station premises.

All the policemen of Vadakara police station have been transferred. Departmental action was taken against 66 policemen following the instructions of the Chief Minister.

Three people, including the SI, had been suspended earlier in the case of the death of the youth who was taken into custody. Vadakara S.I.M. Nijesh, ASI Arun and civil police officer Girish who was on Parav duty were suspended.

Koloth Sajjeev (32), a native of Vilyapally Kalleri, who was brought to the station in connection with a car accident case, collapsed and died in the courtyard of the Vadakara police station on the 14th night. DIG Rahul R Nair had suspended Vadakara SI, ASI and civil police officer who was on security duty pending investigation in the assessment of police negligence in the death. Later, the investigation was handed over to a team led by Rural District Crime Branch DySP R Haridasan. The new team was assigned while the investigation under the leadership of DYSP was in progress.
