Historic moment; PM names 21 Andaman islands after Paramveer Chakra winners

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi named the unnamed islands of Andaman and Nicobar on the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. These islands are named after the Paramvir Chakra winners.

Prime Minister Modi also unveiled the model of the National Memorial to be built on the island named after Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Home Minister Amit Shah also attended the function. The Prime Minister said that this is a historic moment for the country. Andaman was the first country to hoist the tricolor flag. The largest unnamed island is named after the first Paramaveer Chakra awardee, Major Somnath Sharma, who lost his life fighting Pakistani invaders near Srinagar Airport on November 3, 1947.

In 2021, the birthday of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the government had declared January 23 as Parakram Divas. During his visit to Andaman and Nicobar Islands in 2018, Narendra Modi had renamed Rose Island as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island.

Kochi: Noro virus has been confirmed in Ernakulam by the health department. Norovirus infection was confirmed among the students of Kakkanad School. Two samples were sent for testing. There are 67 children with similar symptoms. The health department said there is no cause for concern.

The Health Department stated that the infected children are recovering quickly and the necessary instructions have been given to the school. Thiruvananthapuram: Order of Higher Education Department granting menstrual leave to female students of all universities under the Higher Education Department of the state.
Minister R Bindu said that maternity leave of up to 60 days has been allowed for female students who have crossed the age of 18 years.

The order has been issued by fixing the attendance limit for girl students at 73 percent including the period of menstruation. The minister said that the universities have been instructed to make necessary amendments to the university rules.

Students need 75 percent attendance to appear in each semester. But Kochi University of Science and Technology was the first to bring an amendment to allow women students to appear for the exam even if they have 73 percent attendance considering the period of menstruation. This decision was taken because it will be implemented in all the universities as a relief to female students.

The Central Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar has announced assembly elections in the states of Tripura, Meghalaya, and Nagaland. BJP-ruled Tripura will go to polls on February 16.
