Thiruvananthapuram: The Meteorological Center has informed us that there is a chance of heavy rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in the state on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Strong wind speed of 30 to 40 kmph is also likely on April 15 and 16. Therefore, the Central Meteorological Department said to be cautious.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Center has advised fishermen and coastal residents to be cautious due to the possibility of high waves.
New Delhi: Serum Institute of India (SII) has restarted the production of Covishield, a Covid vaccine, after the increase in Covid cases in the country, CEO Adar Punewala has informed.
He said that six million Covovax booster doses of the vaccine are currently stocked and the youth should take the booster doses.
Production of the CoviShield was discontinued in December 2021. Punewala also said that the Covovax booster dose can be booked through the Cowin App.

Kochi: 5 people, including 3 women, have been arrested in the case of beating up a young man naked, taking a video and threatening to extort money. The incident happened at Mulavukad in Kochi. Apart from stealing the youth’s money, the gang also took the ATM cards.
Anju, a native of Tamil Nadu’s Tenkasi, her sister Mary, Mary’s friends Vennala Ashiq, Ashiq’s wife Shahana, and Arun, a native of Mattancherry, were caught by the Mulavukad police.
Thiruvananthapuram: The upper age limit for appointment of assistant professors in various universities, government and aided colleges in the state has been increased to 50 years. The government has issued an order in this regard. One of the key recommendations of the Higher Education Reforms Commission chaired by Shyam B Menon is being implemented. The order applies to arts colleges, training colleges, law colleges, Sanskrit colleges and various universities in the state.
At present the age limit for appointment of teachers in universities and colleges is forty years. But the UGC norms applicable to teacher appointments do not prescribe an upper age limit. In this regard, the decision has been taken by considering the report given by the Director of College Education and the recommendation of the State Council of Higher Education to waive the upper age limit for college teacher appointments.
Appropriate amendments will be made in the Collegiate Education Special Rules as per the order. The respective universities will make the necessary amendment in the university statutes. Higher Education Minister R Bindu has informed that the universities have been asked to take steps to amend the university rules as per the UGC rules to completely avoid the upper age limit for direct recruitment to the posts of associate professor and professor in the universities.
New Delhi: The Center is ending kerosene production in the country. It has been decided to stop production completely within two years. The announcement was made by Food Minister GR Anil after a meeting with the Secretaries of the Ministry of Public Supply and Petroleum.

Food Minister G R Anil said that it has been decided to stop production completely within two years. The minister stated that the kerosene required for Kerala was cut by fifty percent in the last quarter and when it was requested to restore it, the reply was that it would not be possible.

Chennai: Governor RN Ravi approves bill to ban online rummy in Tamil Nadu. The governor has signed a bill that makes it punishable by three months imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 5000 for playing online rummy. The Governor signed this bill after the Assembly passed a resolution against the Governor.
The bill is against online gambling. The governor’s signing of the bill comes a few weeks after on March 23, the Tamil Nadu cabinet headed by Chief Minister MK Stalin again passed a bill to ban these games in the state.
Governor RN Ravi sent back the bill on March 8 stating that the state government had no power to enact such legislation. Later, he signed the bill after many controversies and criticisms.
Thiruvananthapuram: The Lokayukta will consider the review petition filed by the complainant RS Shivakumar in the case of misappropriation of funds in the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The petition is for reconsideration of the judgment of the two-member bench which recently referred the case to the full bench. The petition will be considered by a bench comprising Lokayukta Justice Syriak Joseph and Deputy Lokayukta Haroon Al Rasheed.
The Lokayukta himself had expressed doubt whether the case against the government could be considered. Following this, the case was left to the full bench. But in 2019, a large bench headed by Lokayukta Justice Pius Kuriakos ordered that it has jurisdiction to hear the case after hearing detailed arguments. Referring to this order, the complainant RS Sasikumar filed a review petition against the dissenting judgment.
Chandigarh: A group of armed men attacked a mosque in Santal Kalan village of Sonipat, Haryana. During the prayers, people who came with sticks and hockey sticks attacked the people inside the mosque.
The incident happened on Sunday evening. Six people were injured in the attack. Police arrested 10 people in the incident. The locals alleged that some people unexpectedly entered the mosque and unleashed violence demanding that prayers be stopped. The church was also damaged. All those arrested are from the same village.
Sonipat Police Commissioner B. Satish Balan said that there were no problems at the place before and the violence took place without any provocation. He said that more police have been deployed at the spot and the situation is peaceful.
