Scheduled Caste status for Meiti community: Tensions intensify in Manipur

Imphal: Protests over the granting of Scheduled Tribe status to the majority Meiti community in Manipur are intensifying. The conflict has resulted in a protest by the tribals regarding the granting of Scheduled Caste status.

Last week, the High Court ordered the Meiti community to be included in the tribal group. This is where the conflict begins. 53% of the population of Manipur, the Meiti community lives in the valleys of Manipur. The Meiti sect says it is facing difficulties due to large-scale illegal immigration by Myanmarese and Bangladeshis.

Curfew has been announced in eight districts of the state in the wake of intense tension in Imphal, Churachandpur and Kangpokpi areas yesterday. Internet services have also been banned in the state for the next 5 days.

The government has announced that the army and Assam Rifles have been deployed in the conflict-ridden areas. The army said that people are being shifted to safer places in case the attack continues. People are being shifted to army camps and government offices in different areas of the state.

All India Radio replaced with ‘Akashvani’

New delhi: The official radio broadcast under Prasar Bharti will henceforth be known simply as ‘Akashavani’. An order was issued last day directing to completely avoid the title ‘All India Radio’ and use only Akashvani.

The official announcement of the director general of Akashvani in this regard was made on Wednesday. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has suggested that Prasar Bharti’s radio division be called Aakashvani.

All future broadcasts and programs of the organization, which has been operating in India since British times, will be presented under the Aakashvani brand.

In 1936, the country’s official radio broadcast was named All India Radio. Nobel laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore coined the word Akashvani for the first time in 1939. Later, in 1956, radio broadcasting was given the name Aakashvani. At the same time, the name All India Radio continued.

The current order states that the name Akashvani should be used instead of All India Radio in all radio programs and official communications. 

Decrease in covid cases in the country

New Delhi: Another decline in active covid cases in the country. Although 3,962 new cases were confirmed, the number of people currently infected dropped from 40,177 to 36,244.

An increase of 22 people was recorded in the death toll. In this, Kerala has added eight people from the previous figures.

Experts consider this as a sign that the covid has passed from the pandemic stage to the endemic stage. Hospital admissions are also seen to be less in the new wave.

New Delhi: An Indian to head the World Bank.  Ajay Banga, businessman and former CEO of MasterCard, will be the next president of the World Bank.  The World Bank confirmed that Ajay Banga was elected as its president on Wednesday.  This is the first time that a person of Indian origin has reached the head of the World Bank.

 The decision was taken by the 25-member executive board that met on Wednesday.  The selection came after World Bank board members held a four-hour interview with Banga on Monday.  He was elected unopposed.  The term is five years.  He will take charge on June 2.  The 63-year-old Banga was nominated as the president of the World Bank by US President Joe Biden.

 In an open letter of support, 55 lawyers, academics, executives, veterans and former government officials endorsed the nomination for the World Bank presidency.  Biden suggested Ajay Banga saying that he is a person capable of meeting the challenges of the times.  Many Nobel laureates were among Banga’s supporters.  David Malpass, the current president of the World Bank, announced his decision to step down a year ago.

 Born in Pune, Banga completed her primary education from St. Edward’s School in Shimla in the 1970s.  His father was an officer in the army.  Singh graduated in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University.  Banga, an American citizen, was set to retire in December 2021 after nearly 12 years as the head of Mastercard Inc.

 Banga has expertise in financial and technical fields.  Banga, 63, has also served on the boards of the American Red Cross, Kraft Foods and Dow Inc.  In 2016, the country honored him with the Padma Shri.

Lionel Messi to leave PSG;  The decision was communicated to the club

Paris: Lionel Messi is reportedly set to leave Paris Saint-Germain when his current contract expires.  It is reported that PSG will not renew the contract with the Argentine superstar.  Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Messi’s illegal Saudi trip has strained relations between the star and the club.

 Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Messi’s father and agent Jorge Messi informed PSG of his decision to leave the team.  The news comes after Messi was handed a two-week suspension by the French giants for traveling to the Middle East without the club’s permission.

 Following PSG’s 3-1 home defeat to Lorient on Sunday, the 35-year-old traveled to the Middle East.  Messi is believed to have made the trip as part of his duties as tourism ambassador for the Gulf countries.  But the club did not give permission for the trip as training was scheduled that day.  After that, a two-week suspension was imposed.

 Messi is not allowed to play or train during the suspension.  The club will not pay any remuneration during this period.  Messi, who is coming back from suspension, will be able to play only three games this season.  Messi has scored 31 goals in 71 matches for PSG.

‘The Kerala Story’ screened in Kochi;  Invited guests including BJP leaders watched the preview show

Kochi: Amid controversies, the film ‘The Kerala Story’ was screened in Kochi.  The show was held at Ernakulam Shenoyes Theater for invited guests.  BJP leaders also watched the movie.  

 The theater authorities say that the preview show was arranged in Kochi as requested by the crew of the film.  The preview was held Wednesday at 4 pm.  Officials give information that this is the first preview held in Kerala.  BJP District President Adv. Shaiju KS and others watched the movie.  Guests including Shibu Thilakan also came to watch the movie.

 There are widespread criticisms against the film.  The Supreme Court had refused to consider the petitions against ‘The Kerala Story’ urgently.  The bench headed by the Chief Justice directed the petitioners to take their objections to the Kerala High Court.  The bench directed that the petition filed in the High Court should be considered urgently.

School shootings; 9 people including 8 children killed in serbia

Eight students and a security officer were killed in a shooting at a school in Serbia. Six children and a teacher were injured in the firing. The accused was arrested by the police.

A fourteen-year-old boy opened fire at a school in Belgrade. The police said that the accused came to the school with his father’s gun. The motive or cause of the attack is not clear.

The police said that the student of class 7 was arrested. In a statement, the police said that the injured are undergoing treatment and the cause of the shooting is being investigated.
