Paris: Lionel Messi is reportedly set to leave Paris Saint-Germain when his current contract expires. It is reported that PSG will not renew the contract with the Argentine superstar. Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Messi’s illegal Saudi trip has strained relations between the star and the club.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims that Messi’s father and agent Jorge Messi informed PSG of his decision to leave the team. The news comes after Messi was handed a two-week suspension by the French giants for traveling to the Middle East without the club’s permission.
Following PSG’s 3-1 home defeat to Lorient on Sunday, the 35-year-old traveled to the Middle East. Messi is believed to have made the trip as part of his duties as tourism ambassador for the Gulf countries. But the club did not give permission for the trip as training was scheduled that day. After that, a two-week suspension was imposed.
Messi is not allowed to play or train during the suspension. The club will not pay any remuneration during this period. Messi, who is coming back from suspension, will be able to play only three games this season. Messi has scored 31 goals in 71 matches for PSG.
