STORY:
At the center of the film are four boys—Hashir, Alan, Ajin, and Vinayak—whose friendship is the heart of the story. It starts with Hashir and Alan as neighbours, and later Ajin and Vinayak become part of their group. They are not friends at first, but after one unexpected incident, they come together and slowly build a strong bond that lasts.
They are not good at studies and are mostly known for their mischief in school. They enjoy life, get into trouble, and create fun memories together. This carefree nature makes their friendship feel very real and relatable. But as time passes, life begins to change. When the Plus Two results come, everything takes a different turn. The others pass and move abroad for better opportunities, while Hashir fails and stays back in his hometown. Even though distance and struggles come in their way, their friendship doesn’t break. The film shows how their bond stays strong no matter where life takes them.
REVIEW & ANALYSIS OF THE FILM:
Positives:
Direction: For a newcomer, director Savin S A makes a remarkably confident and impressive debut, showcasing a clear understanding of storytelling and emotional depth. One of his biggest strengths lies in how he crafts the first half, which is thoroughly engaging and filled with life. The school portions are handled with great charm—be it the fun-filled moments, silly arguments, intense fights, or the subtle touches of school romance. Every bit of it feels lively, relatable, and deeply nostalgic, taking the audience back to their own school days. There’s a warmth and familiarity in these sequences that instantly pulls you in, making you smile, laugh, and reminisce.
In the second half, when life takes the friends in different directions, the film gains an added emotional layer. Two of them move to London for work, one heads to Dubai, while another remains in their hometown after failing his Plus Two. Despite the physical distance and the struggles they face in their respective paths, the emotional bond between them never weakens. This is where the director truly shines—he beautifully maintains the soul of their friendship even when they are apart, making the connection feel constant and unbreakable. He also brings in a subtle yet impactful social angle, portraying the hardships faced by Indians living abroad with honesty and sensitivity.
Savin S A also deserves credit for maintaining a fine balance between humor and emotion throughout. The transitions between light-hearted moments and emotionally intense scenes feel smooth and natural, ensuring the film never loses its rhythm. His ability to extract such authentic performances from the cast further strengthens the narrative, making every character feel real and relatable. Overall, this is a highly promising debut from Savin S A, especially in the way he establishes emotional depth and beautifully showcases the bonds of friendship, parenthood, and brotherhood. There is a strong sense of reality throughout, making everything feel more lived-in than cinematic, and that authenticity is what truly connects the film with the audience.
Script: The story written by Vipin Das stands as the emotional backbone of the film, beautifully capturing the essence of friendship and the many layers that come with it. At its core, it celebrates the value of true friendship—the fun, the madness, the memories, and the unbreakable bond that grows stronger with time. The narrative effortlessly blends different emotions, from the carefree joy of school days to the deeper feelings of separation and longing. Along with friendship, the story also gives equal importance to relationships within a family, portraying the warmth of parenthood and the subtle yet powerful bond of brotherhood. The school portions are filled with life—be it the vibrant campus vibe, playful romance, or even the intense school fights, everything feels lively, relatable, and rooted in reality.
The screenplay further strengthens this foundation by presenting the story in a smooth, engaging, and natural manner. The flow feels effortless, with each scene connecting seamlessly to the next, making the journey immersive from start to finish. The transitions between fun moments and emotional beats are handled with great care, allowing the audience to feel every high and low without any disconnect. There are multiple layers within the screenplay—friendship, family, love, and personal struggles—all woven together in a way that feels honest and impactful. The dialogues play a crucial role in elevating these moments, striking the right balance between humor and emotion. Many lines leave a lasting impression, especially during the emotional scenes, where they feel simple yet deeply touching, making the audience connect on a personal level.
Comedies: Comedy stands out as one of the film’s biggest strengths, acting as the driving force that keeps the narrative lively and thoroughly engaging. The humor flows effortlessly throughout, never once feeling forced or out of place. Every joke lands naturally, perfectly aligned with the situation and the characters, making the laughter feel organic rather than staged. What truly works is how the film captures the essence of real-life banter—the kind of humor that exists within a group of close friends. The teasing, the spontaneous comebacks, and the silly moments feel so authentic that it’s easy to see your own gang in them.
What makes it even more refreshing is the clean approach to comedy. There’s no reliance on double meanings or unnecessary adult elements; instead, the humor is rooted in everyday interactions and genuine situations. It creates a light-hearted, stress-free viewing experience where you can simply sit back and laugh without overthinking anything. Personally, watching it with my best friends made it even more special—we connected instantly with the scenes and found ourselves laughing out loud, just like we would in our own conversations.
Performance:
The performances are undoubtedly the strongest pillar of the film, bringing its world to life with remarkable authenticity. Hashir, Alan Bin Siraj, Ajin Joy, and Vinayak completely steal the show with performances that feel raw, effortless, and deeply lived-in. What makes them stand out is not just their individual acting, but the beautiful layers of friendship they bring to the screen—the fun, the chaos, the teasing, the silent support, and the emotional strength they share. Their chemistry feels so natural that it genuinely feels like watching our own gang unfold on screen. From carefree moments filled with laughter to emotionally heavy scenes that hit straight to the heart, they handle every shade with maturity and sincerity. The way they support each other within the story reflects strongly in their performances, making every interaction believable and touching. Their emotional scenes, in particular, are performed with such intensity that it’s hard not to feel overwhelmed—I found myself tearing up, completely drawn into their world. It’s a performance that not only entertains but also connects deeply, and it’s clear they have the potential to go even further. Wishing them the very best for what lies ahead.
Biju Kuttan and Sudheesh, portraying the fathers, deliver heartfelt performances that add emotional weight to the narrative. They beautifully capture the essence of loving, caring parents—their silent worries, their sacrifices, and their unconditional support. Their presence brings warmth and relatability, making the parent-child dynamic feel honest and grounded. Vijay Babu, as the teacher with a slightly negative shade, delivers a notable performance, adding tension where needed, while Aju Varghese plays his role as a supportive teacher with ease and charm, leaving a pleasant impact.
Ameen and his gang, appearing in the first half, bring a refreshing dose of humor to the film. The theatre sequence, in particular, stands out as one of the most entertaining moments, filled with laughter and lively energy.
Emotionally Connecting:
The film’s portrayal of friendship between the four boys is nothing short of heartbreaking in the most beautiful way. It takes us back to a time we often wish we could relive—the innocence of school days, where friendships were everything and the smallest moments meant the most. From the way their bond begins, filled with laughter, silly jokes, and playful fights, to the unbreakable support they show for each other, every scene feels painfully real. You don’t just watch their friendship—you feel it. And when life slowly pulls them apart, that silence, that distance, and that unspoken longing hit you hard. It leaves behind a lump in your throat, reminding you of your own friends, the memories you once lived, and the ones you can never get back. It’s deeply nostalgic, quietly devastating, and so emotionally powerful that it lingers in your heart long after the film ends.
The portrayal of brotherhood is equally powerful and layered with realism. The film doesn’t shy away from showing the conflicts between siblings—the petty fights, jealousy, misunderstandings, and moments of selfishness that naturally exist. Yet, beneath all of it lies a deep, unspoken love that never fades. As the story unfolds, the gradual understanding between them and the evolution of their bond is portrayed with sincerity and emotional depth. The film beautifully highlights how siblings may not always express their love openly, but it’s always there, quietly shaping their actions. These moments are handled with care, making the audience feel every emotion and leaving a lasting impact.
Parenthood, too, is explored with touching sensitivity, adding another emotional layer to the narrative. The film reflects the expectations parents carry, their silent sacrifices, and their unwavering support for their children. It also captures how children often fail to fully understand their parents until time and distance create that realization. The longing, the respect, and the emotional weight of missing one’s parents when apart are portrayed with subtlety and depth. Altogether, these emotional threads—friendship, brotherhood, and parenthood—are woven together beautifully, making the film not just engaging, but deeply moving and unforgettable.
Actions:
The action sequences in the film deserve special mention. The fight choreography feels organic and beautifully tailored to each situation, never once coming across as forced or over-the-top. What truly stands out is how grounded everything feels—the way the teenage boys fight reflects their age, rawness, and inexperience, making it all the more believable and immersive. The mood and setting perfectly complement the action, enhancing the tension without relying on exaggerated heroism. The school fight sequence towards the end of the first half is brilliantly executed, serving as a major turning point that effectively amplifies the emotional weight of the narrative.
The tail-end action sequences are particularly striking, delivering both intensity and payoff. A few surprise cameos elevate these moments further, and their involvement in the fight scenes adds an extra layer of excitement. The staging, sound design, and raw energy make these sequences genuinely chilling to watch, leaving a lasting impact even after the film ends.
Cinematography and Editing:
The cinematography by Akhil Lailasuran and the editing by Kannan Mohan emerge as standout strengths of the film, playing a crucial role in shaping its overall impact. The visuals carry a grounded, lived-in quality, making every frame feel familiar and relatable, as if the story is unfolding right around us. This natural visual tone helps the audience instantly connect with the film’s setting and its characters.
The action sequences, as mentioned earlier, are elevated significantly by the cinematography. The choice of angles, fluid camera movements, and smart framing make the fights feel raw, immersive, and strikingly realistic. There’s a certain finesse in how the chaos is captured—nothing feels staged, and every frame adds to the intensity. At the same time, the film balances its emotional core beautifully. In the more intimate moments, the camera slows down and allows the emotions to breathe. The cinematographer captures these scenes with sensitivity, drawing the audience deeper into the characters’ feelings. The use of close-up shots is particularly effective, highlighting the natural performances of the actors and making every expression count.
On the editing front, Kannan Mohan ensures that the film maintains a consistently engaging rhythm. The cuts are sharp and purposeful, and the transitions flow seamlessly without disrupting the narrative. Whether it’s high-energy action or quiet emotional beats, the editing complements the storytelling perfectly. Another notable aspect is how well the pacing is handled. Despite having a mix of intense action and emotional depth, the runtime never feels stretched. Each scene serves a purpose, and the film moves forward with a steady, gripping momentu
Negatives:
Predictibality: One area where the film slightly holds back is in its narrative tension. The story leans more towards subtle, everyday moments and personal journeys, which, while emotionally rich, sometimes lacks that gripping push to keep things consistently exciting. At certain points, the progression feels a bit too familiar, making a few stretches less impactful than they could have been. A stronger sense of unpredictability or a few more striking turns in the storyline might have elevated the overall experience further. Still, this doesn’t take away much from the film’s core, as its emotional strength continues to hold the viewer’s attention.
Same Template of First Part: Another aspect that feels slightly familiar is the overall narrative pattern, which carries a resemblance to the first part’s structure. While it doesn’t really disturb the film’s engaging flow, there is a sense of déjà vu in the way certain moments unfold. The inclusion of themes like substance use is once again explored, but this time it doesn’t bring much novelty or a fresh perspective to the table. It feels like an extension rather than an evolution. Introducing a new angle or a different layer to these elements could have made the film stand out more and added a stronger sense of progression. Still, the emotional core manages to keep things watchable despite this familiarity.
CONCLUSION:
I’ll recommend Vaazha 2 to anyone who enjoys a perfect blend of fun, emotion, and meaningful storytelling. It’s not just a movie, but an experience that takes you back to your own memories—your friends, your school days, and the bonds that shaped you. With its relatable characters, heartfelt moments, and engaging narrative, the film manages to connect on a deeply personal level. Despite a few familiar elements, the strength of its performances, humor, emotional depth, and direction makes it a thoroughly enjoyable watch. It’s the kind of film that makes you laugh, brings tears to your eyes, and leaves you with a warm feeling by the end. Definitely a must-watch, especially with your friends, to truly feel and enjoy the journey together.

Speaking on the massive scale of the project, Producer Namit Malhotra shared his vision in a recent interview:

We’re making the largest film in the world for the greatest epic that deserves to be seen globally. And yet, I believe we’re doing it more efficiently than some of the biggest Hollywood films. We’re not being irresponsible—we’re being ambitious, but grounded.”

“It’s terrifying for both of us. We’re scoring something so iconic and so important to the world. In the promo, Hans created a brilliant soundscape, and I took that and added the Sanskrit words at the end. What’s complicated is that we’re taking something so epic, which every Indian knows, and we have to give them something new—from India to the world.”
