War again;  109 people were killed in the attack in Gaza

Israel launched an attack on Gaza again.  The attack comes after a week-long ceasefire in Gaza.

 Within seconds of the ceasefire ending at 7 am on Friday, the various forces launched an attack.  The war was led by land, air and naval forces.  The Israel Defense Forces announced that it had attacked 200 sites.  The Ministry of Health has confirmed 109 deaths till evening.  About 70 people in Gaza were killed within the first hour of the attack.  Hundreds of people were injured.

 The attack took place in crowded places like refugee camps, residential complexes and schools.  Heavy bombing took place in Khan Younis and Rafah in Gaza.  The Israeli army had also distributed leaflets asking the people to evacuate by publishing the route map for the people to escape.

 The incident took place in southern Gaza.

 Most of those killed in Friday’s attack had fled to southern Gaza from northern Gaza before the cease-fire. This exodus was as instructed by Israel. The Gaza Health Ministry has asked Egypt to open the Rafah border. This happened in the context of Israel’s offensive in the southern region as well.

 Chennai: Cyclone ‘Michaung’ forecast to hit Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh coast alert. Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Heavy rain is continuing for two days in Bay of Bengal. The low pressure in the form of yesterday turned into an extreme low pressure.  Weather department predicts that tomorrow it will turn into a cyclonic storm. 

 The indication is that it will cross to the shore on Monday evening between Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh and Chennai. Wind speed of 80-90 km per hour will reach the coast. It is predicted that it can reach up to 100 km. Michaung is the sixth cyclone to form in the Indian Ocean this year.  Four of these were in the Bay of Bengal.  The name Michaung was suggested by Myanmar.  Cyclone will not cause significant problems in Odisha.

Mizoram Assembly Elections;  Counting of votes has been postponed to December 4

 New Delhi: The counting of votes for Mizoram assembly elections has been postponed to December 4.  The change of Election Commission is taking into account the demand of Christian organizations and Congress to change the election that was to be held on Sunday.  Counting of votes in other states will take place on Sunday itself. 

 Meanwhile, exit polls predict that the Zoram People’s Movement will win in Mizoram.  The Mizo National Front (MNF), an ally of the NDA, is ruling the state.  Zorum People’s Movement (ZPM) is MNF’s main opponent this time.

3 people in custody in case of child abduction

 Kollam: Three persons in custody in the case of the kidnapping of a six-year-old girl from Oyoor.  The accused were arrested from Puliyara in Tenkasi.  It is reported that 2 men and one woman natives of Chathannoor have been arrested.  It is also indicated that the financial dispute with the child’s father is the cause of the problems.  It is also reported that two vehicles were taken into custody.

 It is also suspected that the three accused belong to the same family.  The accused were caught by the Kollam Commissioner’s squad.

 The child was found abandoned in the grounds of the Kollam ashram.

 The child was recovered after a twenty-hour long search.

Thiruvananthapuram: Actress and musician R Subbalakshmi passed away. She was 87 years old.

 She died in Thiruvananthapuram due to old age related illness. She gained attention for her role as a grandmother.

 She was active in art since childhood. Worked in All India Radio in 1951.

  She was the first woman composer of All India Radio in South India.

 She entered the film industry with the film Nandanam.

 She has acted in about 70 Malayalam films including Kalyanaraman, Pandipada, CID Musa, Sound Thoma, Koothara, Pranaya Katha, Seetha Kalyanam, One, Rani Padmini.

Robin Bus Gets Temporary Relief: HC Stays Permit Revocation Order

Thiruvananthapuram: The High Court has stayed the order of the Transport Secretary to revoke the permit of Robin Bus. The Transport Secretary had revoked the permit citing repeated violations of rules. However, the bus owner and other organizations have filed a petition in the High Court arguing that there was no violation of rules. Considering the petition, the High Court temporarily stayed the order to revoke the permit.

In the past, Transport Minister Antony Raju and MVD had taken strong action against Robin Bus, alleging that it was constantly violating rules. They had fined the bus repeatedly for violating permit rules. Following this, the MVD had seized the bus. A case has been registered against the vehicle by the Motor Vehicles Department. The bus was seized for repeatedly violating the permit in violation of the High Court order.

The Transport Minister had said that seizing the bus was part of the legal process and that the law would take its course. He had said that the bus was taking advantage of the court order. In the wake of this, the Transport Secretary had taken action.

However, the bus owner and other organizations filed a petition in the High Court arguing that there was no violation of rules. Considering the petition, the High Court temporarily stayed the order to revoke the permit. The final verdict on the petition will be issued in the coming days.

The verdict has given Robin Bus owners temporary relief. However, it remains to be seen what the High Court’s final verdict will be.

Police released the sketch of 2 more people in the incident of child abduction in Kollam

 Kollam: Kid’s statement that more than one woman was involved in the kidnapping of a 6-year-old girl in Ovieyur.  The police released their sketch.  1 sketches of a woman and a man have been released.

 At the same time, the boy said that there were 2 women in the group that abducted him and that they were in the house where he was staying on Monday night.  The boy told the police that he did not remember the faces of others.  The sketches was handed over to the Kollam ACP and the investigation team at Kottarakkara.

 Meanwhile, a search was conducted at the flat in Pathanamthitta city where the child’s father lived in the case of Abigail Sarah’s abduction.  The boy’s father worked in a private hospital in the city.  The police are investigating whether the financial transactions of the child’s father and others are behind the kidnapping.  Police are also investigating the involvement of mafia groups in the case.  The current assessment of the police is that the child was abducted by a human trafficking group.  But the police have not confirmed anything.

Army to acquire warplanes;  Central approval for purchase of Tejas jets and Prachand helicopters

New Delhi: The Defense Acquisition Council has approved the purchase of 97 Tejas fighter jets and 156 Prachand helicopters to boost the country’s defence.  The Tejas Mark 1A fighter jets are being procured for the Air Force.  Prachand helicopters will be provided to the Army and Air Force.  The Rs 1.18 lakh crore deal is a wake-up call for the Atmanirbhar Bharat scheme.

 The council approved the deal worth Rs 2.23 lakh crore, including anti-ship missiles and artillery.  It also has the feature that 98 percent of this amount is spent in the local industry sector.

 This is the largest defense deal for an indigenous industry in the country’s history.  After the final price is decided through negotiation, the process will be completed once the Cabinet Committee on Security gives its approval.  In 10 years, the force will get airplanes and helicopters.

 The Council also approved the upgrade of the existing Sukhoi Su-30 MKI aircraft.  84 Sukhoi aircraft are being upgraded with indigenously developed radar, avionics and subsystems etc.  Apart from this, it is allowed to buy automatic target trackers and computers to be fitted to the Russian-made T90 tanks and to buy new ones to replace the existing cannons.  Medium-range anti-ship missiles for the Navy.  This too will be fully indigenously developed.

Five people died after drinking Ayurvedic concoction in Gujarat

 Ahmedabad: Five people died after drinking Ayurvedic concoction in Gujarat.  Two people were admitted to the hospital.

 The deceased were people who bought Kalmegasav Asavarishta from a shop in Bilodara village and drank it.  About 50 people have been given medicine.  The presence of methyl alcohol caused death.  It is reported that three people including the debtor have been detained in connection with the incident.  Police are conducting further investigation into the incident.

Kannur VC appointment canceled; The Supreme Court said that the method of appointment was illegal

Kannur University VC Gopinath Ravindran’s appointment was canceled by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court observed that the method of appointment was illegal. The verdict was delivered by a bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. Justice JB Pardhiwala of the three-judge bench pronounced the verdict.

The same procedure as for appointment need not be applicable for re-appointment. However, the power of re-appointment rests with the chancellor, the court said.

Here, the Governor who is also the Chancellor has stated that the process of reappointment of Gopinath Ravindran as Kannur VC is not in his interest. Under the Chancellor’s authority, outside interference is not acceptable.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, therefore, ordered that the re-appointment notification and the High Court order upholding the same be set aside and the appeal allowed.

Kannur University Senate Member Dr. Premachandran Keezhot, Academic Council Member Shino P. Jose is Dr. Gopinath approached the Supreme Court questioning the re-appointment of Ravindran.
