Low pressure: Orange alert in 7 districts;  Heavy rain till Monday

Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rain is likely in the state till Monday as a result of low pressure, the Meteorological Department said.  According to the new warning issued on Friday afternoon, there is a warning of heavy rain at isolated places in 7 districts.   As part of vigilance, orange alert has been announced in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode and Kannur districts.  According to the warning of the Meteorological Department, caution should be taken as there is a possibility of heavy rain in isolated places.

 Yellow alert has also been announced in other districts.  Heavy rain is forecast at isolated places.  A yellow alert has been issued for heavy rain on Saturday.  Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts are under rain warning.

Transport Department has issued revised driving test reform order

 The decisions of the meeting with the driving school owners were issued as an order.  After the meeting, these suggestions were implemented.  As per the revised order, 40 tests can be conducted in offices with one motor vehicle inspector and 80 tests in offices with two motor vehicle inspectors.  Vehicles up to 18 years old can be used for the test.  Permission to conduct road test after ground test.  Vehicles with dual clutch/brake systems may continue to be used for road safety reasons.

 Driving schools are also directed to prepare a new design for ground renovation and submit it to the Transport Commissioner within a month.  The order also said that the driving schools should ensure that the driving instructor is present when the applicants appear for the test.

Pune: The bail granted to a 17-year-old in the case of killing two people while driving drunk in Pune has been cancelled.  The 17-year-old was granted bail within hours of the accident after his grandfather assured him that he would not join bad associations.  The bail was canceled after a review petition was filed by the Juvenile Justice Board against the Pune police bail. The child was shifted to observation home.

 Two software engineers were killed when the Porsche car driven by the 17-year-old crashed.  The police had charged a case under the Juvenile Justice Act against the child’s father. The police have found that the child was drunk at the time of the accident.

 The boy is the son of a real estate tycoon. Immediately after being taken into custody, he was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.  Bail was also granted within hours.  The board has asked the regional transport office to study the traffic rules and submit a presentation before the board within 15 days and write an essay of not less than 300 words on road accidents and their solutions. The police have requested permission to treat the child as an adult.

Malankara Dam’s shutters opened;  Caution is advised

 Kochi: 2 more shutters of Malankara Dam have been opened as the water level has risen due to heavy rains.  With this, the number of open shutters has increased to four.  2 shutters are raised by 50 cm each.  Earlier 2 shutters were raised by 20 cm each.

 The water level in Thodupuzha and Muvatupuzha rivers is rising.  Officials informed that more water will be released if necessary and people living on both banks of the river should be very careful.

Seven dead, 45 injured in boiler explosion at Dombivli factory

Karamana Akhil murder case; The accused were remanded in custody

Idukki: Another West Nile fever death in the state. Vijayakumar, a resident of Maniyarankudi, Idukki, died. He was 24 years old. He contracted West Nile fever in Kozhikode. He died on Friday while undergoing treatment at Idukki Medical College. He came to Kozhikode for kidney transplant. There he contracted West Nile fever. He was undergoing treatment in Kozhikode and later returned home to Idukki when his fever subsided. When developed fever again, he was admitted to the medical college in Idukki.

West Nile fever is an infectious disease caused by a virus. West Nile virus is the causative agent. They reach the human body through Culex mosquitoes. The virus is transmitted from birds to humans through mosquitoes. The disease is not directly transmitted from human to human. The main symptoms are headache, fever, muscle aches, fatigue, dizziness and memory loss.

Cargo vehicle overturns into stream in Chhattisgarh; 15 people died

Raipur: 15 people died after a cargo vehicle fell into a canal in Chhattisgarh’s Kabirdham district. Eight people were injured. 14 women and one man died in the accident. The injured were admitted to the hospital. Police officials said the accident occurred when the group was returning in a pick-up vehicle after picking tendu leaves from a forest near Bahpani village under Kukdur police station limits. The vehicle skidded off the road and fell into the ditch. Officials said that after being informed, the police team reached the spot and started the rescue operation.
