Stampede during prayer meeting in UP;  122 killed, death toll rising

 At least 102 people, including women and three children, were reportedly killed in a stampede during a religious prayer meeting in Uttar Pradesh’s Hatras.  There was a stampede during the ‘Satsanga’ (prayer meeting).  The footage of the incident has already surfaced.  The injured were admitted to hospitals, the Chief Medical Officer of Ita, Dr.  Umesh Kumar Tripathi informed.

 The initial conclusion is that there was a stampede when the crowd started to disperse during the prayer ceremony.  The committee has been formed under the leadership of Additional Director General of Police (Agra) and Aligarh Commissioner to probe the matter.

Extreme cruelty; A 5th class girl was gang-raped and killed in Delhi

A 5th class girl was gang-raped and killed in Delhi. The incident took place in Narela, Delhi. The child was brutally killed by hitting her head with a stone. 

The girl was reported missing last night. Two people were arrested in the incident. The POCSO department charged the accused and took up the case.

A 12-year-old from Kozhikode was diagnosed with amoebic encephalitis

Kozhikode: A 12-year-old boy who is in critical condition in a private hospital in Kozhikode has been diagnosed with amoebic encephalitis. The disease was confirmed by a PCR test conducted at the Pondicherry lab.

 Earlier, the child was diagnosed with amoebic encephalitis in a private hospital. The result of the examination in Pondicherry was also awaited for confirmation.

The result was released yesterday. Primarily, treatment was initiated based on early detection of the disease. Dr. Abdul Rauf, Pediatric Department of the private hospital, said that the child’s condition is still critical.

 The test results of the water in the Achanambalam pond near Farook College, where the child bathed, are not available. The municipality had banned public use of the pool and took further action.

 A 13-year-old native of Kannur died of amoebic encephalitis in a private hospital in Kozhikode earlier. Dakshina (13), daughter of Ragesh Babu and Dhanya of Kannur Thottada, died. Last month, a five-year-old girl from Malappuram also died due to the same disease.

Om Birla was elected as the Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha. Om Birla was elected as Speaker by voice vote. During the second Modi government too, Om Birla was the speaker. Kodikunnil Suresh had contested in as a candidate of India Front. Om Birla was escorted to Speaker Diaz by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

There were 13 resolutions proposing Om Birla’s name for the post of Speaker. Kodikunnil Suresh’s name in and three resolutions. Narendra Modi proposed the name of Om Birla first.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh supported it. This resolution was put to voice vote as the first motion submitted. With Om Birla winning, the opposition did not demand ballot or electronic voting. Since the first resolution was passed, the other resolutions were not considered for voting.

Maintenance on the track; Change in 4 train services in the state

Thiruvananthapuram: Change in 4 train services from the state. Roorkee – Deoband route has been canceled due to track maintenance. Kochuveli – Rishikesh Superfast Express departing Kochuveli on June 28 has been cancelled. The Southern Railway has also announced that the return journey from there on July 1 has been cancelled.

On Thursday and July 1, the Ernakulam – Karaikal Express leaving Ernakulam at 10.25 pm will discontinue the Nagapattinam service. This is because the commissioning works of Karaikal Yard are going on.

Ernakulam – Karaikal Express leaving Ernakulam at 10.25 pm on July 2nd will operate up to Nagor only. Ernakulam Express departing from Karaikal at 4.30 pm on July 3 and coming to Ernakulam will start service from Nagapatnam at 05.05 pm.

Distribution of welfare pension from Thursday

Thiruvananthapuram: Finance Minister KN Balagopal said that the distribution of Social Security and Welfare Fund pension will start on Thursday. 1600 each to the beneficiaries. 900 crore has been allocated for this. As usual, the pension will be delivered directly to the home for those who have given their bank account number through their account and for others through cooperative societies.

It was announced in this year’s budget that action will be taken for pension distribution in the respective month. According to this, pension was given in the months of March, April and May also. It is not specified that the arrears will be paid.

Heavy rain; Kakkayam and Kariyathumpara tourist centers have been closed indefinitely

Kozhikode: Kakkayam Hydel Tourism Center under KSEB, Kakkayam Eco Tourism Center of Forest Department and Kariyathumpara Tourist Center of Tourism Management Committee have been closed in the wake of heavy rain warning. According to the Divisional Forest Officer, the tourism center in Kakkayam Urakuzhi area will be closed till further notice and the entry of tourists has been completely stopped.

Kariyathumpara Parakkadav tourist centers have also been banned from entry for an indefinite period. Kallanod Thonikadav Tourist Center will remain open but visitors will not be allowed to enter Kariathumpara. The decision has been taken keeping in mind the danger associated with heavy rains.

Kerala Schools Closed Due to Heavy Rains in Five Districts

Several districts in Kerala have declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Thursday, June 27th, 2024, due to heavy rains. This closure applies to all schools, colleges, and universities in Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Wayanad, and Ernakulam districts.

Due to waterlogging in various schools in Kuttanad Taluk and the ongoing heavy rainfall in the taluk, the Alappuzha District Collector has declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, in Kuttanad Taluk tomorrow.

The decision comes as a precautionary measure in anticipation of further heavy rainfall and potential flooding. Authorities have also imposed night travel restrictions in some low-lying areas of these districts.
