Idukki Pullupara bus accident;  Four death, many injured

Four killed in KSRTC bus overturn accident at Idukki Pullupara.  Bindu, a native of Mavelikara, died.  The body is in Mundakkayam Medical Trust Hospital.  20 people died in Mundakkayam Medical Trust Hospital and two in Peerumedu Taluk Hospital.

 There were 34 people in the bus.  It is reported that many people were injured in the accident.  The accident took place near Idukki Pullupara.  The accident occurred in a bus carrying a group traveling from Mavelikara to Thanjavur on a recreational trip.

 Initial information is that the bus carrying the excursion group met with an accident on the way back.  The bus went out of control at the curve and fell down about 30 feet.  But the bus hit the trees and stopped.  The accident happened around 6 o’clock in the morning today. The fire force team from Peerumed and Mundakayam went to the spot for rescue operation.  A team of highway police has also reached the spot.  The motor vehicle department team has also gone to the spot for rescue operation.  Preliminary information is that the passengers have been injured.

 Rajasekaran Pillai, who was injured in the accident, told  media that everyone was asleep.  Those sitting in the front suffered more injuries.  

First HMP virus confirmed in the country

 First HMP virus confirmed in India.  The disease was first confirmed in Bengaluru.  An eight-month-old baby has been diagnosed with the disease.  The child is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bengaluru.  At the same time, there is no confirmation whether it is the same virus that is spreading in China in Bangalore.  For that, a sample is collected from the baby and further tests are being conducted.

BJP leader and actress Khushbu Sundar arrested. The arrest was made during the Mahila Morcha’s protest in Madurai over the rape of a student inside the Anna University campus.

The police denied permission to hold the protest. The police had announced a prohibitory order to prevent the protesters from coming. However, the group led by Khushbu protested and the police proceeded to arrest them.

The young Morcha activists protested by wearing the Chilambu on the feet of Kannaki from the Tamil epic poem Chilapathikaram. After Khushbu, other leaders have also been arrested and removed by the police. It is reported that some have been put under house arrest.

Fog; More than 100 flights were delayed in Delhi

More than 100 flights were delayed in Delhi due to fog. At eight in the morning, Delhi’s Palam airport was under complete darkness. Only fifty meters were visible at Safdarjung airport. Both these airports are not used for commercial flights. According to CPCB, air quality at Lodi Road station is 309. It is considered very bad air.

SpiceJet, IndiGo and Air India flights have all been affected. FlightRadar 24 reports that the arrival of flights at the Delhi airport is about six minutes and departure is about 47 minutes.

About 24 train journeys were affected due to fog. Ayodhya Express was delayed by four hours while Gorakhdam Express was delayed by two hours. Bihar Kranti Express and Shram Shakti Express were also delayed by three hours.

North India is shrouded in heavy fog. As the fog obscured the views ahead and the temperature dropped too low, train and air travel were also affected. The data released by the IMD in the last 24 hours indicates that the highest temperature in Delhi so far is 16 degree Celsius.

It is about three degrees less than normal. The lowest temperature recorded so far was 7.6 degrees Celsius. Delhi will experience heavy fog till January 8. There may also be light rain around January 6. The temperature in Delhi on Friday morning is 9.6 degrees Celsius. Friday is the fifth coldest day near the national capital.

Periya murder case; Double life imprisonment and fine for 10 accused

In the Periya murder case, 10 accused were awarded double life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2 lakh each. The other accused have to serve 5 years imprisonment each. The order belongs to the Ernakulam Special CBI Court.

The court sentenced the 1st to 8th accused A Peethambaran, Saji C George, KM Suresh, K Anil Kumar, Jijin, R Sreerag, A Ashwin, Subish, and the tenth accused Ranjith and the fifteenth accused A Surendran with double life imprisonment. A fine of Rs.2 lakh each shall also be imposed.

The 14th accused K Manikandan, 20th accused KV Kunhiraman, 21st accused Raghavan Velutholi and 22nd accused KV Bhaskaran were sentenced to five years in prison. The other two accused were sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs. A special court in Ernakulam had found 14 people guilty in the case with a total of 24 accused. The court also acquitted ten people, including those accused by the CBI.

Fourteen people found guilty were sentenced today. During the sentencing hearing, the accused requested the court to award the minimum sentence. But the demand of CBI was to give death penalty. First the local police, then the crime branch and finally the CBI investigated the case. The court found that only one person included in the CBI charge-sheet was involved in the murder.

New virus spreads in China; No cure, no vaccine

Beijing: Reports of deadly virus spreading again in China. Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) has been reported to be widespread in China. However, these things have not been confirmed by China or the World Health Organization. Meanwhile, China’s disease control authority has revealed that it has set up a special system to monitor cases of pneumonia of unknown origin.

HMPV is an infection that affects the lungs. It is reported that this virus mostly affects young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems

Currently, there is no specific treatment or vaccine available for human metapneumovirus.

Respiratory diseases may rise in winter. HMPV virus was first discovered in 2001. Experts say that cough, fever and shortness of breath are its important symptoms.

Some have only mild cold-like symptoms. Some have symptoms similar to Covid. It is essential to take some precautions like covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze and washing your hands frequently. China is reportedly experiencing an increase in multiple viruses, including influenza A, HMPV, mycoplasma pneumoniae, and Covid-19.

Manmohan Singh’s funeral tomorrow; 7 days of mourning in the country

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister and Congress leader Dr. Manmohan Singh’s body will be cremated on Saturday. He collapsed at his residence in Delhi last night. He was rushed to AIIMS but his life could not be saved. The body will be put on public display at the AICC headquarters. The government has announced seven days of mourning in the country. A special cabinet meeting will be held at 11 am.

President Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal, Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala and former MP Sebastian Paul condoled the demise of Manmohan Singh.

China is preparing to build the world’s largest dam across the Brahmaputra

Beijing: China is ready to build the world’s largest dam. China is building a dam on the Brahmaputra River in Tibet. The $137 billion project was recently approved. China aims to generate 300 billion kilowatts of electricity per year through this massive project.

The Brahmaputra flowing through the Himalayas is known as ‘Yerlang Tsangbo River’ in Tibet. Four to six giant tunnels of 20 km length will have to be dug in the ‘Namcha Barwa’ hills for power generation. Chinese state media reported that the project would surpass China’s current largest dam, the Three Gorges.

There is a huge earthquake risk in the area where the dam is going to be constructed. Therefore, there is a big challenge in front of China in relation to the construction of the dam. Yan Xiong, former chairman of the China Power Construction Corporation, claimed that the project could generate $3 billion in annual revenue for Tibet.

Wayanad rehabilitation: Land can be acquired for township, HC rejects plea of plantation owners

Kochi: The High Court rejected the plea of the owners against acquiring the plantation for the rehabilitation of the Mundakai-Chooralmala disaster victims. The court said that the land can be acquired for rehabilitation by giving a suitable compensation to the plantation owners.

The Harrisons and Elstone owners approached the court against the acquisition of the plantation. The court ruled that the survey process related to land acquisition can be started immediately and the owners should be compensated when the land is acquired.

The High Court also directed to provide facilities to the government to measure the land. The land will be acquired under the Disaster Management Act. 127.11 hectares of land will be acquired by the government to establish the model township.
