Russian President Vladimir Putin has strongly condemned the attack. After the attack, Putin accused the terrorists of trying to escape across the Ukrainian border. But Ukraine has stated that it has no role in the attack. Security has been tightened in Russia following the attack. The nation will observe mourning on Sunday.
The Afghan branch of the Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the attack. US agencies have confirmed this. The attack comes within days of Putin’s re-election as Russian president. The attack took place at Crocus City Hall, which can accommodate 6,000 people. There have also been videos of the assailant walking through the hall directly shooting people.
