Morocco; The death toll from the earthquake has crossed 2,000

Rabak: The death toll from a powerful earthquake in the African country of Morocco has crossed 2,000.  Official confirmation is that 1400 people were seriously injured.  The death toll is likely to rise.  It is estimated that thousands are trapped among the building debris.  The search for them is in progress.

 King Mohammed VI announced that the country will observe three days of mourning and will ensure food and shelter for the victims.  The 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck around 11pm local time on Friday.  Local residents say that the tremors of the earthquake stopped for several seconds.  The earthquake affected areas from Rabat to Marukesh, a distance of 300 km.  The epicenter of the earthquake is the area near Marukesh.
