Washington: A US flight brought back 12 Indians who had arrived in Panama as part of the deportation process. They were brought back to Delhi on an Istanbul-Turkish Airlines flight from Panama on Sunday evening.
Four of them are from Punjab and three each from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. They returned on a regular flight. The Punjab natives were later sent to Amritsar on another flight. With this, 4 flights carrying illegal Indian immigrants to the US have arrived in the country. They were brought back with the help of a United Nations agency.
Since Trump came to power, America has deported 299 illegal immigrants, including Indians, to Panama. The first batch of Indians included in this has now been brought to Delhi. Meanwhile, India has expressed its opposition to sending Indians deported from America to the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay. The central government has said that more military flights will be allowed and that Indians should be brought directly to India as much as possible.
