Death toll rises to 58 in anti-government protests in Peru

Lima: Protests intensify in Peru demanding the resignation of President Dina Bolvart. The protests in Peru began after Pedro Castillo was ousted from the position of president through impeachment and arrested on December 7. Vice President Dina Boluarte took over as the new president, but nationwide protests began calling for immediate elections and the release of Castello. Demonstrations demanding Bolwart’s resignation, dissolution of Congress and early elections are gaining strength in the country.

A protester was killed in Peru’s capital Lima during clashes with police. This is the first death in the capital city in anti-government clashes. Fifty-five-year-old Victor Santisteban Yaxavilca died yesterday. A total of 58 people, including a police officer, died in anti-government protests across Peru.
