New Delhi: The Election Commission has announced that the Vice Presidential election will be held on September 9, following the unexpected resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar. The official notification will be issued on August 7, and nominations can be filed until August 21. Results will be declared on the same day as the election.
Dhankhar cited health reasons for his resignation, which he submitted to President Droupadi Murmu at the beginning of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. As per Article 67A of the Constitution, he formally relinquished the position. Until a new Vice President is elected, Deputy Chairperson Harivansh will serve in the role.
