THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP State Secretary S. Suresh has dismissed media reports claiming that BJP leader and councillor R. Sreelekha has resigned from her position as entirely false. He made these statements in a Facebook post after visiting Sreelekha at a local hospital, where she is currently receiving medical treatment.
Clarifying the situation, Suresh stated that Sreelekha had only shared her health concerns with party leadership, expressing anxiety over whether her physical indisposition might hinder her from discharging her duties effectively as a public representative. He noted that it was unfortunate that this conversation was misinterpreted and hyped up into a media debate.
Taking aim at political opponents and sensational coverage, Suresh wrote: “Those who are dreaming that BJP’s administration in the corporation will fall can put those thoughts aside. Not just for five years, BJP will continue to rule Thiruvananthapuram even beyond.” He added that claims of Sreelekha bargaining for posts or planning to switch parties are completely baseless and lack basic media ethics.
He highlighted that Sreelekha—Kerala’s first woman IPS officer and DGP—was inducted into the party by K. Surendran and has consistently demonstrated her dedication to the party. As BJP State Vice President, her commitment was evident when she readily contested as a councillor candidate upon the party’s request and actively participated in a three-day district study camp as an ordinary worker. He further emphasized her integrity, mentioning that she serves her ward members using her own pension funds.
Suresh was accompanied on his visit by BJP State Vice President K. Soman. Thiruvananthapuram District President Karamana Jayan and Mayor V. V. Rajesh also visited Sreelekha at the hospital and wished her a speedy recovery.
