Kochi: A rape case has been filed against rapper Vedan following a complaint by a young female doctor. The Kochi Thrikkakara police have registered the case under IPC Section 376(2)(n) for repeated rape of the same woman. The complainant alleges that Vedan sexually assaulted her multiple times between August 2021 and March 2023, luring her with a promise of marriage.
According to the police, the two met through social media. The woman claims the initial assault occurred at a flat in Kozhikode, followed by subsequent incidents at various locations. She filed the complaint after Vedan distanced himself from the relationship and backed out of the marriage promise. The complainant told the police that his withdrawal led her to depression, and fear of societal judgment had initially prevented her from coming forward.
The police are currently examining her statement and will take further action based on their findings.
