School annual programs should not be held on weekdays: Child Rights Commission

Thiruvananthapuram: Child Rights Commission Chairperson K.V. Manojkumar has directed that school annual programs should not be held on weekdays. The main directive is to arrange the programs in such a way that they start in the morning on Saturdays and Sundays and end by 9.30 pm.

The directive states that extracurricular activities should not be conducted in a way that disrupts school activities and children’s classes, and that non-government agencies, clubs and various organizations should conduct such activities only during school holidays.

The order is based on a complaint filed by a retired teacher in Thottada to the commission that the school annual program is being concluded very late at night and that children who have been wearing makeup since noon for various art programs and are tired and hungry can be seen in schools.
