Kochi: The high court quashed COFEPOSA case against Swapna Suresh, accused in the case of smuggling gold through Thiruvananthapuram airport through diplomatic luggage. COFEPOASA is a special law imposed on those who regularly commit financial crimes. Accordingly, the accused can be remanded in custody by the investigating agencies for up to one year.
COFEPOSA was imposed on the Swapna Suresh on October 10, 2020. COFEPOSA is charged with engaging in financial crimes on a regular basis and committing more crimes upon release from prison. COFEPOSA was charged as required by customs. Swapna’s mother approached the court. she was granted bail in this case but will have to stay in jail as he was not granted bail in the NIA case. The High Court is considering the case on the 22nd.
