Hate Speech: PC George was granted bail

Thiruvananthapuram:  Former UDF government chief whip PC George, who was arrested for making hate speech, has been granted bail by the Vanchiyoor A12 magistrate. Vanchiyoor court had been granted bail on the grounds that would not influence witnesses and would not preach unnecessarily.  George alleged that his arrest was Pinarayi Vijayan’s Ramadan gift to Muslims in Kerala. George evaded questioning and threatened reporters.

PC George was charged under sections 153A for attempting to incite communal hatred and 295A for speaking in a manner that sowed terror in the community. The police submitted the remand report to the court with strong evidence, including the fact that granting bail would affect witnesses and obstruct the investigation. The police report that PC George deliberately made the speech to create Hindu-Muslim divisions was serious. The remand report also said that George had confessed during the preliminary interrogation led by Commissioner Souparjan Kumar. Adv. Sasthamangalam Ajithkumar was present. George’s wife and personal staff came to the court to seek bail.
