New Delhi: The Election Commission met on Wednesday to decide the dates of Assembly elections in five states, including Kerala. Elections will be held in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry.

The Commission discussed the deployment of security forces and provision of facilities. Election Commission sources said the election date would be announced in the first week of March.

Sudeep Jain, the Deputy Election Commissioner in charge of West Bengal, will submit the report soon. Jain will arrive in Kolkata on Friday to prepare for the elections.

The commission plans to hold elections in Bengal in six to eight phases. In Assam, the polls will be held in two or three phases. The results will be declared in all the states on the same day.

At the same time, 6400 booths in West Bengal are being assessed as problematic. This is the highest of the five states where elections are held.
