The assailant poured petrol on everyone’s bodies and then set them on fire. When the fire broke out, the passengers raised the alarm and pulled the chain to stop the train, but the D1 coach came and stopped on the Korapuzha bridge. No one could get out. The assailant ran away from there. After this, 3 dead bodies including a woman and a child were found on the railway track.

The dead bodies of Naufiq (39), Rahmat (48), and Zahra, natives of Mattanur, were found. The initial conclusion of the police is that they may have jumped to escape after seeing the violence on the train. The Kozhikode railway police registered a case against the accused under five sections including an attempt to murder, the Explosive Substances Prohibition Act and Railway Act against arson.
