Thiruvananthapuram: In the wake of the disaster in Kusat, the State Disaster Management Authority has started the process of revising the existing guidelines for organizing mob events in the state. The Chief Minister had directed the State Disaster Management Authority to look into its legal and technical aspects in a high-level meeting.
It has been suggested to submit a report within a week regarding the revision of the existing guidelines for mass programs. Apart from this, the disaster management authority will also check whether there was any lapse in crowd control in Kusat. Authority Member Secretary Shekhar Kuriakos responded to the media that a crowd management specialist has been appointed for this purpose.
A detailed report will be submitted after collecting all the information related to the disaster. Following the Putingal disaster, the Institute of Land and Disaster Management had issued a special guideline explaining the precautions to be taken while organizing public events. This guideline has been in place since 2015. Religious festivals like Thrissur Pooram, Atukal Pongala, Bimapalli Urus, Vettukad Thirunal and events like ISL IPL and matches with large crowds are organized according to these guidelines.
