Thiruvananthapuram: Newborn babies below 5 years of age can also be enrolled in Aadhaar. Biometrics (fingerprint, pupil line) of children up to five years of age will not be collected at the time of Aadhaar enrollment. But children’s birth certificates are required to be produced at the time of enrolment. Biometrics are then compulsorily renewed at the age of five and at the age of 15.

The free renewal facility is available only if mandatory biometrics renewal at age 5 is done within 7 years and mandatory biometrics renewal at 15 years is done within 17 years. Otherwise a charge of Rs.100 will be charged. Services are available through Akshaya Kendras and other Aadhaar Centers. The State Government and the Unique Identification Authority of India have designated the Kerala State IT Mission as the nodal agency for Aadhaar in Kerala.
