Assembly elections; Candidates should open a separate bank account

Malappuram: Candidates in the Assembly elections should open a separate bank account in their own name or in the name of their election agent in connection with election expenses, said Senior Finance Officer, Expenditure Monitoring Cell, Santosh Kumar informed.

The account can be opened at any bank or post office including Co-operative Bank. Candidates’ direct expenses and donations made by others should be deposited in this account and election expenses should be deducted from this. The senior finance officer, who is the nodal officer of the Expenditure Monitoring Cell, said that if the total amount paid to an individual or institution during the election period is more than Rs 10,000, such expenses should be paid only by account paycheque.
