Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh visited the historic Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hills in Mysuru to offer prayers. The temple visit comes as part of a compliance directive issued by the Karnataka High Court in connection with the ‘Kantara’ mimicry controversy.
The controversy dates back to the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, where Ranveer Singh allegedly imitated the sacred ‘Daiva’ depiction from Rishab Shetty’s critically acclaimed film Kantara and reportedly referred to the deity inappropriately. Following a complaint lodged by a lawyer alleging that his religious sentiments were hurt, an FIR was registered against the actor.
Ranveer Singh subsequently approached the Karnataka High Court seeking to quash the proceedings. During the legal process, the actor submitted a revised affidavit offering an unconditional apology for his actions, clarifying that it was an oversight with no malicious intentions. Accepting his apology, the High Court directed the actor to visit the Chamundeshwari deity within four weeks to make amends for his conduct before final disposal of the matter.
Adhering to the court’s timeline, the actor made a quiet, private visit to the shrine around 7:30 AM. Wearing a face mask to maintain anonymity, Ranveer stood in the queue like a regular devotee. It was only when he removed his mask near the sanctum sanctorum that the temple priests and staff recognized him. He spent around ten minutes inside the inner shrine, performed special rituals (Archane), and accepted the holy prasada before quietly departing.
