Chennai: The custodial death case in Sivaganga will now be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Following a judicial inquiry ordered by the Madras High Court, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin transferred the case to the CBI. Alongside the CBI, a special team from the CB-CID will also conduct a probe. The state government has assured full cooperation with the investigation. The deceased, B. Ajith Kumar (27), a contract worker at the Madapuram Kaliamman Temple in Sivaganga, died while in custody at the Thiruppuvanam police station. The post-mortem report revealed 30 injury marks on his body and concluded internal bleeding due to assault as the cause of death. The incident occurred on June 27 after a complaint by a woman named Nikita, who alleged the theft of gold jewelry from her car. Ajith had denied involvement in the theft, but he was taken into custody again and later died, with police informing the family posthumously.
