New Delhi: The number of black fungus cases in the country is on the rise. It is estimated that there has been a 150 percent increase in black fungus cases in the last three weeks.
So far 31216 black fungus cases and 2109 related deaths have been reported in the country. Maharashtra has the highest number of reported cases and deaths. So far, there have been 7057 cases and 609 deaths in Maharashtra. The lowest incidence of the disease is reported in Jharkhand; 96 cases. Bengal has the lowest number of confirmed deaths; 23.
The figures for some other states are as follows (cases, death order) – Gujarat: 5418-323, Rajasthan: 2976-188, Uttar Pradesh: 1744-142, Delhi: 1200-125. Shortage of amphotericin-B, a drug used to treat black fungus, has also been linked to an increase in cases.
