High Court Cancels Mohanlal’s Ownership of Elephant Tusks

Kochi: The Kerala High Court has cancelled the order granting actor Mohanlal ownership rights over the elephant tusks seized from his residence. The court observed that the previous order allowing Mohanlal to keep the tusks had no legal standing, as it was issued without a proper government notification. The Division Bench headed by Justice A.K. Jayasankaran Nambiar clarified that the government may issue a notification if required but that the existing order cannot stand on its own. The court did not enter into the merits of the case since Mohanlal’s appeal on the issue is still pending. The tusks were seized from the actor’s house in 2011, leading to a forest department case, which was later withdrawn after the ownership was granted through a special order.
