Kozhikode: Prominent celebrity makeup artist and social media influencer Jaanmoni Das was arrested by the Kozhikode City Cyber Police following a complaint alleging that she made derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the media and on social platforms.
The action was initiated based on a complaint filed by the Mahila Morcha leadership. Since the charges pressed against her were under bailable offenses, police summoned her for questioning, recorded her arrest, and subsequently released her on station bail.
The controversy stems from an incident where Jaanmoni spoke to the media in Kochi after participating in a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Representatives of the BJP and Mahila Morcha alleged that her statements insulted the Prime Minister and his parents.
Following the backlash, Jaanmoni issued a public apology on social media, clarifying that her statements were misunderstood due to her limited proficiency in the Malayalam language. She stated that she had no intention to insult or hurt anyone personally, a explanation she reiterated in her formal statement to the police.
