The India captain Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar announced the team officially at a press conference. Tilak Varma and Prasidh Krishna also took part in the squad list along with Sanju Samson as a backup player. Shreyas Iyer and Kl Rahul have made a comeback from injury and Jasprit Bumrah has proven his solidity in the ongoing T20 series in Ireland where he is presiding over the team. Kl Rahul has been holding a ‘niggle’ and is not eventually the whole fit to reclaim his position of playing in the XI.

The chief selector said “It is not the original injury. There is a niggle. That is why Sanju is travelling (to Sri Lanka). We are expecting Rahul to be fit. If not the start of Asia Cup may be by the second or the third game. Shreyas Iyer is fully fit,”.

The Asia Cup commences on August 30 between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan. The team India are supposed to play all their matches in Sri Lanka where the first match is against Pakistan on September 2 in Kandy. India, Pakistan and Nepal form Group A and Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan form Group B and the top two teams from each group will enter the ‘Super 4’ stage and the total number of tournaments will be 13. The final match is scheduled on September 17 in Colombo.
