Amritha Express Extended to Rameswaram from Thursday

Thiruvananthapuram: The Railway Board has approved the extension of the Amritha Express (16343/44) from Thiruvananthapuram–Madurai to Rameswaram. The first extended service will begin on Thursday.

The train will depart Thiruvananthapuram at 8:30 PM and reach Rameswaram at 12:45 PM the next day. On the return journey, it will leave Rameswaram at 1:30 PM and arrive in Thiruvananthapuram at 4:55 AM the following day.

Stops between Madurai and Rameswaram include Manamadurai, Paramakudi, and Ramanathapuram. This fulfills a long-standing demand for direct service from Kerala to Rameswaram — last operational during the meter-gauge era before 2008.
